Question about CVCO Take Overs

I would imagine Dan is waiting to see what happens with the clear channel stations in the smaller markets statewide.

It would seem to make more sence for CVCO to get ahold of a full service station or two, rather than theses 3 satellite stations.

What's not full-service about the X-Star stations?

WVXR Richmond, IN = class B1, 4200 watts @ 57 meters HAAT
WVXC Chillicothe, OH = class A, 2500 watts @ 100 meters HAAT
WVXW West Union, OH = class A, 3200 watts @ 116 meters HAAT

Those seem like full-service numbers to me, even though they may not have the specs of a WNCI.

However, I do agree that CVCO might be interested in picking up some of the Clear Channel spinoffs. I'm particularly curious to see if they try to expand up I-71 into Mansfield and try to pick up 98.3 Fredericktown, 107.7 Loudonville, 102.3 Galion, or maybe even 101.3 Ashland. They already run 95.1 in Mt. Gilead, so maybe they want to continue up the interstate. 101.3 and 107.7 both nearly make it to Akron's west side.

One thing to note is that CVCO doesn't plan on selling much. The owners of WHIZ in Zanesville made an offer to by WCVZ 92.7 from CVCO, but CVCO turned them down.

They're "full service" as in full-powered facilities...but I think what the poster meant that they are main studio waivered non-comms that consist of little more than a sat dish and transmitter.

The focus is all on building their network.

Speaking of their network, does anyone know when CVCO is taking over the WVXU network stations in Chillicothe, West Union, and Richmond, IN?

Already have. Not sure of what they are doing with them, but I imagine it is networked with the others.

I am not in the range of the 3 non-coms but I would suspect likely a non commerical version of their "river network" they already transmit the same djs and music logs on WVXG 95.1 and WCVZ 92.7 their other two stations so I would think it would be easy to make the new 3 stations into river network stations if they already have taken program over (which I cant hear to know).

If your complaint that NPR is being taken away complain to the folks that SOLD the cluster of stations, their the ones that is taking NPR way, not the new owners their doing with the properly they purchased, they are free to do with what they want. The stations where for sale and the previous owners SOLD to CVCO.

Out of many of the Christian offerings out there, CVCO is sound in what they do, sure they do fund raisers etc but they are music intensive so you wont be hearing preaching on air 24/7 if that's your feeling about Christian Radio. Now I dont know what their plans are for the non coms but I would guess a format like their river network stations just minus commercial "call to action" content.

You may not like Christian radio and thats fine. I personally cant stand hip-hop, urban or hard rock music.. but that doesnt mean there shouldnt be a place for them on the dial or that they should be regulated differently.

I think there is a place for any and every type of niche that people demand (who can argue with supply and demand?) but I think the question is, does it belong in the non-comm part of the dial? I would argue no. Like Dirty_Harry points out, it's a business just like any other. A VERY profitable business. They should belong in the commercial band just like all other businesses. Leave the non-comms for community based programming.

This is the other problem I have with it:

Not to say all CCR is run by Megachurches but you get to the point where that song title runs through my head, "Would Jesus wear a Rolex?"

The CVCO people are business people first and foremost. How much money did they make from the tree farm on Reynoldsburg New Albany Road?
