Question about Dan Armstrong at KOY. Was he really a powerful programmer & On Air Talent?

I know Dan passed away about 15 years ago from Arm cancer, kind of ironic. I had never heard someone speak so negatively about Charlie Van Dyke, who is revered as a Radio God. Dan was very artificial and somewhat strange, not great on the air at my network, really stiff presentation. Did some very small market TV News in California. Anyone remember him and have memories on his days in Phoenix?
