Question about DSP-X processor

I am interesed to learn if anyone here has used the DSP-X and what kind of results it yiels. From reading the information they posted on the website, it sounds to be a good processor for the money. I am really interested in the quality of audio it produces after it processes it and how much control a person has over the various settings. Is it really worth the money, or should one spend a few extra dollars and go with the Omnia?

I'm not going to get into nuances, but the DSP-X is a really good box. Frank and Bob make great products, but this offering should not be overlooked. It is very competitive and versatile. It has also received favorable reviews in BE Radio and Radio World from end users. Tech support is here in the US in NYC thru TransLanTech (the Ariane people). The designers are more than happy to talk about their box and end-user advice is often incorporated in software upgrades. The software is stable and I've had one for almost 2 years in my home lab and another on-air for 2 years with no hiccups.

I can echo that statement. We have Serial Number 004. It was a Beta Test unit, and it has worked flawlessly since its delivery. Since it is software driven, I've gone through a number of upgrades, each of which added new features and a lot more versitility.

Even though our station is extremely low power, I get listener coments about how good it sounds, so we must be doing something right. No regrets on the DSP-X.

If you want a preset, let me know your format and I'll send you one or two that are in the ballpark.

Thank you for your comments and confidence. I have upgraded presets since I sent you the last. Works better with the latest software. I will email to you if you wish.

Yes, that would be great. CHR/Pop
Also, how much delay is there on this processor.

THANKS!

The delay is just enough that you notice it in headphones if you are monitoring off the air, but not so much that you can't deal with it.

We're automated most of the time, so it isn't a big deal. When we do go live, it hasn't been a problem. And you can always switch the headphones to the board's line out if it really bothers you.

11ms

Add an extra 2.5ms if you're using soft bass clipper.

As always with processing, it boils down to what you like... If you're asking if it's worth trying, then my answer is yes, you should definitely try it. Personally I like it, it sounds good, it's loud, feature rich and very user adjustable.

I know some people who like it _very_ much (and compare it to O-6 and O-8400) but I also know some who have chosen O-3fmt over it. Like I said, it's all about what you prefer. But you certainly don't want to miss trying it yourself ;-)

approx 9ms if the bass clipper is sent soft... 5-7ms with it set hard.

Put one on the air at WAKT with an Ariane as a pre-processor. Was competetive with Charlie Wooten's most outstanding WPAP processing until the Double O OM decided he needed to "make some adjustments" after I left. I disabled the wide-band AGC on the DSP-X and only "tickled" the multi-band AGC. It was smooth, sweet and very loud....
