Why does Shoutcast only list your station as a 128k stream, When in fact it is actually a 160k stream? They should probably be updated on this to increase listener ship, and the OH-WOW Factor. This stations listenership could probably Skyrocket, being known as the only 160k U.S Dance Station, and the Killer playlist and Stellar DJ line up sure dont hurt either. As a U.S Dance hits station, this is one station I cant find any complaints about, and that is very rare for M.W.C

Didn't we already cover this with another station that tried 160k? The typical terrestrial radio gimmicks don't work on the internet.
______________

You would be surprised, Anyone Remember my little experiment with another board member...(WAVeDANCE) broadcasting in 192k using all WAV files. When he dropped the bitrate to 128k, the few listeners we had fell like flies, the same thing happened when Vyberadio switched from their 160k test stream, to his permanent 128k stream. Went from a peak of 9 listeners in only a few days, to not being able to get but 1 or 2 people to listen at a time. I dont know how some of you mangage to maintain the amount of listeners and TSL you get.

Yeah, I do. Using wav files was ridiculous and doing it at 192k was even more ridiculous.

You don't have a large enough sample of the market...and since the stations were new, most were just checking it out before returning from where they came. When a stream with 3000 people drops from 192k to 128k without telling anyone, let's see how many stomp away huffing and puffing.

...by not using such a ridiculous, meaningless, and financially irresponsible "feature" as a main selling point.
______________

Sam comes across a little abrasively sometimes, but I well agree with what he's trying to say here. I'm only using "what if's" here, and not pointing fingers... but I think sometimes people get obsessed with high bitrate streams and sound quality issues to the point where programming quality and song selection suffers. Sure, A 128k stream is nice, 192k is phenomenal... and this is probably one of the all time corny things I'll post on this board, but it's not the size of your stream, it's what you do with it. A couple of my favorite dance streams still happen to be broadcasting at dial-up bitrates... would I prefer them at broadband stream? Heck yeah, but what CONTENT they do offer on those streams still makes it worthwhile for me to listen.

I dunno, I think I must be one of the few people on here who don't nit pick audio quality to death. A lot of people rant and rave about wav quality, CD quality... I'm still spinning vinyl, for cryin out loud! :)
