Question About Lets Make a Deal

How's Let's Make a Deal doing? Scot Haney the wacky morning weather guy and co-host of Better Connecticut on WFSB/3 the Merideth owned CBS station in Hartford mentioned on Better Connecticut the other day he thought "Deal" was a horrible show and doesn't see how it will last more than another month or two. This was the day after the story about As the World Turns being canceled broke and he and his co-host were talking about "World" being canceled.

That's what I was wondering in the ATWT thread on how LMAD was doing and if it was doing well or not. Oddly, I have seen but a few minutes of it and though I like Wayne Brady, it's just not this show. I would have rather had him hosting The Price Is Right than Drew Carey and Wayne was on Don't Forget The Lyrics on FOX at the time which prevented him from getting the job of hosting The Price Is Right. In my opinion, Drew Carey should be hosting LMAD instead of TPIR. Thoughts about this?

I wasn't a regular Price is Right Viewer, but haven't watched it since Drew took over because I don't like him, even tho we share May 23rd as our birthday. One thing I've noticed in passing is how much fatter Drew has gotten. (At 310lbs I'm a big dude myself, but I don't have a job on national TV).

I don't think Wayne would work as the host of Price. A lot of elderly people watch that show and unfortunatly there are a lot of elderly people who are racists (I have a relative like this) and would stop watching if an African American man were hosting it.

All those older folks watching Price really aren't that valuable, though. CBS limped along with it for a long time as they did with the bad demos on GL and ATWT; but in Price's case, they had an easier option for trying to shake it up. Losing the seniors wouldn't be an issue either way--if they stay, fine, but whatever future the show has isn't tied to that crowd.

I haven't seen LMAD, but last week I heard the show, as the wife was actually watching it and I could hear it from the next room. It sounded horrible. I didn't know who the host was, but he sounded very rude, bordering on beligerent. I don't know what audience that show is targeting or if the kids these days like being spoken to in that manner, but not me, I wouldn't put up with someone mouthing off to me like that. That guy reminded me of an inner city ghetto pimp/gangster from Baltimore. Utterly disgusting. That show might make it on MTV or some other "urban" or "rap" network, but most likely not on CBS. They should have sent that guy to language lessons.

The host is Wayne Brady, formerly of "Don't Forget The Lyrics"; he's also best friends with Drew, having appeared on Drew's "Whose Line...?" as a regular.

I didn't like the host either.
Would have prefered one of the runner ups for Price is right to host.

Let's Make A Deal sucks so bad my Hoover Vac is jealous. One would think that with Wayne Brady it would have been a pretty cool rebirth of an old show... but it just sucks. Bad. I would not be suprised if CBS bagged the whole morning line up... Now it they had some smarts... they could keep price... then after that repeat some of their prime time shows after that... sitcom in the half hour after local news... I'm just saying with peoples schedules, and the fact most people time shift shows now with dvr that it would make sense and be cheaper than developing new dogs like Deal.

Except that "most people" don't time shift shows. Many? Sure. But not most, given penetration levels and documented usage studies.

Edited or erased? :)

I've seen reports that LMAD is getting about the same ratings and demos that Guiding Light did, so it's not doing too well ratings wise but its making CBS some $$$ and is also cheaper that Guiding Light.

I have seen a couple episodes of LMAD at cbs.com and would love to be a contestant. The Big Deal on one show was a Porsche Boxster convertible worth about $49k. Nice prize if you picked the right door!

CBS probably considers that a victory and will probably do the same if the show that replaces "As The World Turns" can hold its audience and cost less to produce at the same time. As I think I've pointed out elsewhere, Procter & Gamble had not made money off either soap in years, and CBS has all the ad time to sell instead of eight minutes.
