As someone who doesn't live in Chicago can someone tell me what "The Homework Show" is on ME-TV 23?

It's a locally produced show. They base the shows on the agenda of the Chicago Public School System or CPS. So it follows their curriculum.

I haven't seen it lately, but at one time when it was on at 4pm, the kids could actually call in and ask question. I'm not sure if they still do that. I think it is taped in advanced now.

Yes, it's pre-taped now.

"The Homework Show" ?(Re: Question about ME-TV 23)

"The Homework Show", sounds like a rather interesting concept in Chicago schools. What is the core of the curriculum, Middle or High school? I take it that the Chicago Board of Education is on the same page as all of the teachers in the city when it comes to assigning homework. Chicago IS a big city with hundreds of schools. How does "The Homework Show" work? As an educator, I'm interested in hearing more. Please keep in mind, I'm not from Chicago and I have never heard of such a concept such as "The Homework Show" before. Thank you.

I would say it's geared toward 3rd to 5th grade though once they had a guest discussing "To Kill A Mockingbird" which is kind of old for that age. The Chicago Public School systems has standardized curriculum so they stick to subjects that most kids that age would use in the CPS or any school in the suburbs. They usually feature books from a "Reading list." This list is also put out at Chicago Libraries so after hour groups and librarians can help kids.

It's really a form of "Edu-tainment" to use a made up word. George Blaise hosts it and he is pretty entertaining and if any particular educators have a program they can get it featured pretty easily on the program.

There is something like that in New York, too

There is a similar show in New York, airing on city owned WNYE 25 called "Homework Helpline" which seems to be a live call in show which airs in the afternoon.<P ID="signature">______________
