Question about Mediabase relating to classic rock and classic hits

I'm just wondering how to tell the difference because here in Boston, there is virtually no difference between WZLX and WROR - except when Loren and Wally is on the latter. Both play the same Led Zep, Aero, AC/DC, Boston, Who, Eagles, Mac, Elton, Billy Joel, Beatles, Stones, Clapton, Skynyrd, Rod Stewart, Van Halen, etc. I'm sure Mediabase has a similar tracking website much like the ones that its CHRs, ACs, urbans and various rock format charts have. ???

The "Music" selection has already been craftily chosen by media "experts"....

If ther is any innovation in radio..... it is not in the Music Playlist Dept.

That's pre-determined.....

But, you see, that leaves everything else.....

The Promos....

The Stupid Bits....

The Contests...

The Give-aways....

To be innovative in......

Yep.... that's radio in the 21st Century.....

Without a Musical Soul, but, pretending to have one... :p

it's not who you play......it's what you play by them, I'm sure 'ROR wouldn't play "Whole Lotta Rosie" or some of the harder edged AC/DC or massive amounts of Zep album cuts. Classic hits is the new generation of oldies stations for the most part.

Agreed, classic hits is much more song-driven than artist-driven. And super-serving women instead of men.

Example for you Steve, let's create two "sample" hours from both formats. Using the SAME artists, different presentation.

Classic Rock:

Beatles - Come Together
Led Zeppelin - Kashmir
AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie (for Mainedude)
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gimme Back My Bullets
Eric Clapton - The Core
Rolling Stones - Bitch
Van Halen - Panama
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again
Aerosmith - Toys In The Attic

Classic Hits:

Beatles - Fool On The Hill
Led Zeppelin - Fool In The Rain
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Eric Clapton - Layla (unplugged)
Rolling Stones - Beast Of Burden
Van Halen - Why Can't This Be Love?
The Who - See Me, Feel Me
Aerosmith - Angel

A friend of mine calls the classic hits format: classic rock for chicks. LOL

And a third format -- "ROCK" or as I would like to say it "RAWK" --- would give us:

Beatles - Helter Skelter or Carry That Weight
Led Zeppelin - The Song Remains The Same or Since I've Been Loving You (Live Version)
AC/DC - Hells Bells or Shoot To Thrill
Lynyrd Skynyrd - That Smell or Saturday Night Special
Eric Clapton - Pretending or -- a Jam from The Layla Sessions: 20th Anniversary Edition
Rolling Stones - Rock And A Hard Place or Monkey Man
Van Halen - The Full Bug or Take Your Whiskey Home
The Who - Bargain or Baba O'Riley
Aerosmith - Nobody's Fault or Rats In The Cellar

Classic "Hits", Classic "Rock", and Album ROCK

You know which one I would listen to, and which ones, I -- would not. :)

Going back to the Mediabase question, yes they do track classic rock and classic hits separately. Last I checked, Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" and "Dream On" were #1 and 2 respectively on the classic rock chart. I think that WROR is on the classic rock panel, while many oldies or former oldies stations are now considered classic hits.

Your example doesn't make sense....I hear all those songs on ZLX....I don't really listen to ROR, but I've heard them play songs by Chicago....ZLX doesn't play Chicago.
All those formats seem to run into one another these days....I heard Oldies 103 play 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley...not exactly an oldie.
