A body shop I was associated with had a coke machine full of beer.

A motel in town had a coke machine full of beer on the third floor for the truck drivers who were regulars, one night some local kids got in there and were bagged in the parking lot with beer by the local cops.... and when the kids were asked where they got the beer... well lets just say the motel got in some hot water.

Back on topic, there's a Classic Rock station here in NJ that uses the phrase "big-ass" in their liners. You definitely wouldn't hear that 20 years ago.

I still remember the first time I had a rental car equipped with SiriusXM several years ago, which was tuned to Howard 100. I heard their "news" intro - it had a standard news sounder with a deep voiced, authoritative-sounding announcer: "It's Howard 100 News...No more bull$h!t". I started laughing so hard I nearly wrecked...Then I remembered I was listening to subscription satellite radio, not a terrestrial broadcast.

94.3 the Dam Florence SC was "the best dam rock station" about 10 years ago. I'm not aware of any major dam in that area.

I wish that there was a country version of this. This reminds me so much of my first station. They had a library full of songs supposedly containing obscenities, not strong enough to get them taken off the air, but just strong enough to trip up unsuspecting DJs. Add to that that they were too cheap to pay their DJs the right way, so they had us put on an album side whenever necessary to go into the production room to cut spots to play on the air. Needless to say, many of these album sides contained "obscenities" that the PD would then bitch to me about; however, there was no admonition on the record ANYWHERE not to play anything on said record. Long story short, the PD was LAZY, and expected ME to do his job for him, and listen to an album side before playing it. No, if it shouldn't be on the air, it was HIS job to remove it from the library! When the hell would I have any time to listen to a whole friggin' album side when I had too much else to do? I was never happier to leave a radio station than I was with that one!

The old WHDM of McKenzie, TN. They went off the air a few years after I worked for them, but have since returned. Fortunately, they are also under different ownership and management now than they were back then. They were EXTREMELY cheap back then!

In and Out has displayed they will not expand. They have reached the point where expansion simply doesn’t make sense. Keeping these franchises few and far between us is part of their operational strategy. However this may change as markets open.

they are currently expanding across Texas, step by step. Dallas-Ft. Worth has 27 stores now, and they are moving down towards Waco and opened a couple in Houston. They skipped New Mexico, but are also opening multiple locations in the Denver metro.

After considerable litigation, they finally opened in my area in Rancho Mirage where they overturned a zoning rule about drive-throughs. They are now within a few minutes drive of everyone in the Palm Springs metro but are still planning at least one more.

In-N-Out has been expanding. They opened 13 locations in 2020. There were 140 in the year 2000. There are now 358 and a newly-built distribution center in Southern Colorado has opened up New Mexico as a likely candidate for expansion.

They expand in a linear fashion. They had nothing north of the San Francisco Bay Area for the longest time. About four years ago, they opened Ukiah, California, then three in southern Oregon.

Part of it has to do with the company's hard-and-fast rule that they won't open a restaurant more than a day's drive from their own distribution facilities. They bought a piece of land in Tualitin (suburban Portland) a few months ago. If they establish a presence in Portland, they'll put a distribution facility there and be in a position to expand up into Washington State.

What-a-Burger still hasn't even made it to my side of town yet (west of I-65). But I keep hearing that In & Out is so much "better" than What-a-Burger, so I may get to find out! In & Out may actually make it to my side of town (at the rate that they are going) before What-a-Burger ever gets over here!

As for the topic of this thread, it seems like "ass" and "damn" (among others) are what I would consider "PG" curse words now. And even "bitch," depending upon the context in which it is/was used. Premiere Networks censored it from Billy Joel's "Big Shot," which made no sense to me, and created a really crappy-sounding edit!

What's ironic about all of this is that stations back in the day (some of them, anyway) wouldn't play "I Want Your Sex," even though there were NO obscenities in it, and about 10,000 other songs about the same subject matter, and none of THOSE were ever censored!

I may have mentioned this before but one of the better "Phone taps" or bits on one of the nationally syndicated morning shows was when a daughter supposedly contacted the morning show saying her mother was MUCH too strict and protective about what this girls sister was listening to on her iPod. The gist of the gag was that someone called this girl's mother acting like the principal of the school and said "Ma'am, do you know what your daughter actively listens to and what we found on her MP3 player??" I don't remember if they played bits of the songs or just read the lyrics but with each one, all of which referenced sex or sexual acts, the mother became more and more incensed, screaming louder and louder as each example was presented. The funny thing is that they were just lyrics from Top40 tunes at that time from Bruno Mars, Cardi B and others - stuff that was played on radio stations all the time. Finally the daughter that initially set up the gig came on the phone, explained to the mother that she'd been "tapped" and that all those songs were commonly heard on the air. Now, to what extent those "phone taps" are reality-based and how much is acting and if the person they catch is actually that surprised (and is somehow always familiar with the morning show when they do the reveal) is debatable.

On multiple occasions at KLVE we had Latin American or Spanish artist in fie interviews or promotions, and when done, they asked where to find an In & Out. In one case, the singet and leader of mega group Maná asked to have one of our promo tachs go and bring him an order! (Animal style of course)
