Question about past radio station

Would anyone know what WYXR was? I've heard of the station, but I don't know what the format was. What was the format and years the station was active? What kind of music did they play? What was their branding (if they had one)?

Thank you.

"Star 104.5" - AC leaning toward Hot AC.

And they bounced around a bit, from hot AC to rhythmic to something closer to adult top 40 and back to hot AC-ish with a heavy 80s flavor.

From what i remember.
Early 90's was AC-ish not totaly sure on that one.
Mid 90's was Hot AC/Adult CHR.
Then to mainstream CHR in around 1997 or so, then back to an Adult CHR lean again.
"Star 104.5: The best mix of the 80's and 90's"
They had so many slogans i can't remember them all.
At one point it was just "Star 104.5"

they became the new sound of phildelphia on memorial day weekend of 1996 big ron kicked it off @ 3pm i remember it well

When Star 104.5 (WYXR) first launched, it was a Hot AC, similar to what Star 98.7 (KYSR) was in Los Angeles at the time, and the slogan was "Superstars of the 80s and 90s."
I think in their CHR phase they used, "Now, all the hits are on one radio station." They also had just one long stop set per hour, with either 12 or 13 hits in a row, which they promoted.
And a staple of the station was "Between the Sheets," which was hosted by Christopher Knight (I think in two different stints). They moved the start time of the nighttime show around, too. In some phases it started as early as 8 pm, in some phases not until 9 or 10 pm.
For a while they also did all 80s Saturday nights.
Michele Polino and former Fox 29 weatherman Frank Cariello were part of the morning team.

No. That was the more rhythmic phase.

That's right. The "New Sound of Philadelphia" was the slogan for the Rhythmic AC phase starting around '94 or so.

Before that, they were a Hot-ish AC (I'd describe them as a "Bright AC") with the slogan "Superstars of the 80's and 90's".

The Adult CHR phase in 96-97 mainly used the slogan "Continuous Hit Music", which went along with the long music sets. I remember them having very tight rotations and being weeks, if not months, behind the other area CHRs when it came to adding new music. At some point, the company that owned both WIOQ and WYXR (Evergreen or AMFM at the time) decided that Q102 would be positioned as the mainstream CHR (Q had been a dance-leaning rhythmic station) and shifted WYXR back to a gold-heavy Hot AC. This was shortly after the time Terry Young joined Q102.

For some reason, I thought the rhythmic phase began around '95, but it's been too long to be sure. True that Christopher Knight had two stints on the night shift (along with a morning shift in, I think, the Alice days).

in november of 1994 Q 102 was calling itself philly's new #1 hit music station
i remember the imaging being very 80s sounding at that time and making references to 98WCAU-eagle 106

wasn't Steve Trevelise on WYXR at any point? i seem to remember a Steve somebody doing traffic or was it news. Any time between WYSP and WLCEwas he on Star?

The good news of his departure from Philly was the final banishment of that awful Mr. Leonard character.

I moved to Philly in the fall of 99, just before the flip to Alice. The morning show with Nancy Glass was excruciating. In fact, the whole station was pretty bad at that point...an odd hodgepodge of 80s rock and rhythmic-leaning new Hot AC product.

Silly as Alice turned out to be, for the first few months, it was a refreshing change.

Nancy Glass in the morning may be best left forgotten.

I remember Trev doing morning traffic on WDAS in the early 2000s.
