Question about Philly News vs. NY

WABC Channel 7's top story on the 5pm Newscast was the Winslow Twp. / Camden County high school shooting plot. WNBC and WCBS also had live remotes between 5 and 5:10pm. They also had it listed as on of the top local stories on their websites. Here's my question? How did 3, 6, and 10 from Philly carry it? I did not see the story on any of there websites as of 5:30 last night. I live up in Morris County, NJ (North Jersey, NYC DMA) so I had to unhook cable and put up my rabbit ears (I can only get the VHFs 3,6,10, and 12 from Philadelphia) to try to see if they were on top of the story. It seems NYC news beat them in their own backyard. Camden County is what, 10 miles or less from Philly? Maybe 70 miles from NYC? No one in Camden County even gets the NY networks. So my question is to Central Jersey folks who get both NYC and Philly stations can you comment on coverage or South Jersey / Philly folks how did ur local news cover the story compaired to NYC?

Much of the Jersey coverage on network affiliates in both markets comes from their respecitive New Jersey bureaus based in Trenton which CBS 2/3, ABC 6/7 and NBC 4/10 share.

This was also done in the case of the kids who got killed in the car trunk in Camden. It was heavily covered and covered well in New York. In that case it looked like WCBS and KYW were pooling resources, while 4, 5, 7, and 9 were going it alone.

That said, WNBC and WABC have some pretty good people on the New Jersey beat, with WNBC seeming to have a bit better coverage of the state than WABC.

I recall during the NJ Governor's election last year that there was this one event that only WNBC and NJN covered (you could tell from the mic flags) that was in sight of Philadelphia about some island that was proposed to become a park - something of more interest to those in southern New Jersey who wouldn't have been able to see Brian Thompson's report.
______________

That's Petty's Island in Pennsauken, across the river from Philly.

I get the digital broadcasts of 2, 4, 5, & 7 on my HD DirecTv. I get Philly on my Comcast.

DirecTV local channels are assigned by the subcribers' market. Camden County is in the Philadelphia market and you get New York stations? Care to tell us how you did that one? You gave them a billing address different from your location? You moved and didn't tell them? Let me know, I'd like to get LA stations.

No, he still has the HD DNS stations from before the Philly HD locals were turned on last year. Since the big four Philly locals are all O&Os, DirecTV was able to give their HD customers the New York distant network stations in HD. Although they should be turned off now that Philly has 3, 6, 10 and 29 from the satellite, many customers have not had them turned off as of yet.
______________

I can't get digital 3, 6, 10, & 29. I don't have one of the new MP4 boxes and the 5 satellite dish. I only get 3 satellites.

Oh, then you are still good for the NYC HD DNS stations... but you'd better consider switching before they turn those stations off for good anf go exclusively to the MPEG 4 HD locals!
______________
