Question about someone who used to work at WHON/Kicks96

Back in the 90's someone by the name of Jan (I forget his last name) used to be a sportscaster for that station for the Richmond Basketball team. What was his last name?

Could you be thinking of Jan Clark from the Palladium-Item?

He dabbled in radio from time to time.

In the 80's a guy by the name of Jan Lunsford did sports and play by play in Richmond but I believe it was for competitor WKBV.

I worked with Lunsford, who also did PM drive on WKBV. He moved to Colorado for a short time, then Lincoln, Nebraska. After that, I lost touch. Good guy.

Jan was a good guy. His story of accidentaly leaving his car on all night after stopping at a friends house after calling a game was one of his many great stories. He was also host of The Lunsford Open backyard golf tournament. Fun times.

The Richmond hoops announcers during the glory days were Dan Mills on pbp and Jan Clark on color. They did the games on the FM 96. The AM station WKBV had a different crew (because they are a Whitewater station, not Brewer like WQLK/WHON.)

That's how massive high school basketball was in this state before they messed it up with the class system. A town the size of Richmond had two different stations broadcasting their games.

Class basketball didn't kill that.

Both stations still did RHS games when I was at 'KBV in 2000-2002. AFAIK, both still do. Same was true in Marion last I heard.

A few years ago the owners of WBAT(AM)/WCJC(FM) bought WGOM(AM)/WMRI(FM). The MRI calls are now on the AM freq and the FM is WXXC. Until that time, both of the AMs broadcast the Marion games. Now the Marion games are on BAT with county games on MRI and CJC. (at least that's what's happening tonight with the football games.)

Hello to Rob Reel. Missed you so much on G1013 that I now listen to Kicks96 in the mornings because Rick and Brent are boring and Rick is an ego maniac! Angie and the Buddha are actually funny!

Wow...you really CAN say anything on the internet. Thanks, BR7.

The G-101-3 Morning Show is still doing just fine.

I swear that, some days at least, Rick is holding that whole operation together like Dr. Emmitt Brown at the Hill Valley courthouse.

I will say that Rick, Shari and I all brought out the best in one another.

Some people go an entire career and never find that groove.

I still think "Big Ed" had all the talent in that show. ::)

I won't deny that!

Well said, Robb. It was a dynamic that worked very well. As anyone that has gone through multiple on-air partners will tell you sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. This is especially true in the world of multitasking small market radio. As long as the listeners and clients are happy, so am I.

Two words:

Mr. Mullett

Don't forget to laugh like a Frenchman today.

This is King G and I'm out! [complete with church bell in the background]

Rob I miss the Mr. Mullett commercials. They were funny as hell.
