Question about sports reports' place on the news/talk format wheel

WTOP, WBBM, WDEL Wilmington, DE, and IIRC KCBS have their sports segments at :15/:45. WCBS and KYW used to have sports at those places on the wheel.

What's so special about quarter after/quarter of that sports *must* be located at that point on the wheel?

I suspect this is largely because 1010 WINS did it that way first. Here's a copy of the WINS clock from the 1976. http://www.nyradionews.com/wins/images/wins.schedule.155.jpg
And I suspect that old school full-service stations did it this way too.

If I'm a PD, I would program either sports or business on the quarter-hour. Or maybe business at :15 and sports at :45, if we decided to do each only once per hour.
