Question about the new Fox-5/69 in San Diego

I know that per FCC rules that KSWB's HDTV channel will "map" to 69. But I have noticed that on digital tuners you can still type in the digital channel (in this case, 19) to get to the same station.

So my question is this: Will the new Fox station be allowed under FCC rules to identify themselves as "Fox19?" Lets face it, 69 is pretty much the last channel on the spectrum, and who wants to be identified with that?

KSWB will probably avoid the whole thing completely by re-branding as "Fox San Diego."

I have seen it map to 5, 69, and 19. I receive the station at 19 and 69-1. Come February, it's moot as over the air will be channel 19. It really won't make a difference how it is mapped. People tune in for programming, not mapping.

Is it a forgone conclusion that 6 will pick up CW now?

Best to contact Bay City Television on that. The only thing to conclude is that television, like radio, is a business and when conditions change, so does the business.

I knew you'd say that!

I'm sure there will be race to gobble up the remaining network affiliation, I guess we'll just have to...

 Stay tuned!

As I understand it, stations are supposed to map to their original analog numbers. But everything north of Ch. 52 will be going away with the digital switch (as those frequencies are being auctioned off). Do they still have to map to a channel allocation that no longer exists?

I sure hope not. I can't pick up a decent signal from XETV from where I live. I really hope that KUSI gets CW and that they will be forced to upgrade their HD equipment in the process.
