Question about these forums

I do not post a lot here, but I do read.

There is a lot said here that makes me wonder.....

If you had to use your real name as your username.....

.....would you still participate in these forums?

Like in talk radio, how would you prove that the "real name" is really "you?"

There is a forum I visit where it is required that you use your real name. You make a $1 PayPal payment to a charity to confirm your identity with the owner of the website.

The first three years, I used my real name. The next two, after the Russ Incident, I used an alias (or ten,) then went back to my real name about three years ago. For me, it keeps me honest, it keeps me out of slugfests over subjects that usually aren't worth fighting about, and it forces me to stay above the fray. Things seem to work better that way for me. It also keeps me out of trouble at the office (well, most of the time anyway) with there being no question over someone's alleged alias (or someone else's being attributed to me.)

This is exactly my point. Thanks Mike.

This thread has had 145 views in a short period of time. Now granted, some of those were made by the same person checking back (like me). How about those of you who looked but haven't replied.....post your real name in a reply like others have done.

Why the anonymity?

What or who are you hiding from?

a) creditors
b) competitors
c) IRS
d) ex-wives
e) all the above

After all, this is a radio board.

Im voting on E myself...I dont mind using my real name, but the business im in has some dealings with radio/tv, so I like to keep a low profile.

I'm not in the biz, but I've had WAY too many ID theft issues, don't care for any more....

Using your real name on a message board will not cause your identity to be stolen.
