Question about upgrading 92.5 KRPT The Outlaw

I saw this on 92.5 The Outlaw website-

Help Power Up The Outlaw!

If you wanna hear The Outlaw LET US KNOW!

Vote Here for a better signal.

Is this just to see how many listeners The Outlaw has or is CC really wanting to upgrade KRPT tower? Personally, I see any type of upgrade for this station rather difficult with 92.3 KNBT in New Braunsfels and 92.5 KXXS in Austin.

KNBT is on 92.1 I wouldnt see a problem with that one. I would think KXXS would be out of the way also. The way the FCC is squeezing these stations in I wouldnt think it would be any problems.

I just think that if it was possible CC would have done it already.

Why would they? Until the Outlaw that frq never really had good numbers and or sold well.

That's not true. Best numbers was when it was Hot 92.5 and KSJL. The Outlaw rarely in the trends.

True about rarely in the trends, but financially I think they are better now than before. I think they sell it along with KJ. They might have had better ratings, but I think revenue is better this way. And, $$ trumps.

I completely agree with you. The Outlaw is probably being sold as a combo KJ. Regardless, I think if CC had the power to power up 92.5 they would have done it by now.

As a former employee in the building...I can say that Outlaw sells extremely well! Its a niche format and it builds revenue. If it didn't it wouldn't be on the air for this long.

The way I read it, The Outlaw isn't campaigning for an upgrade at 92.5. Its original upgrade from 92.1 Devine to 92.5 was the best it could get. When I see them say they want the listeners to campaign for an upgrade, I get the impression they're wanting to know if they should move it to one of their other signals.

I guess the outlaw on KJ HD-2 isnt billing? I cant even get KJ's HD signal 60 miles.

If that's the case I wonder which station Clear Channel is willing to swap with or maybe Clear Channel found away to move The Outlaw to another frequency. According to radio-locator, 94.5 is an available frequency. However, I don't know how accurate that web site is.

I don't believe any of CC's HD-2's are billing yet. Aren't they still in the freebee stage, "gathering audience"?

As far as an upgrade, there might have been a chance several years ago. I don't think they could have moved it more that 10 or 15 miles closer, which still would not make it a great SA signal. I think a real study would show any chance to move has since vaporized.

If you put pencil to paper, I wouldn’t think the return would be worth the investment considering real estate and steel could approach several 100K.
