Question about WIHS 104.9 FM

Ok, I think, I know which church that is though I don't know the name. If you got off RT 9 at the first exit after you see that church, you can take a right at the end of the exit and the very first right will send you on that road to the Church. I'm not sure why they have such a big dish, unless programs are produced there or something, but I've never heard anything and from the highway, I can't tell why type of dish it is.

WIHS is exactly as mentioned, on RT 17, if you go south from Middletown, it's on the right just before you leave town, the transmitter is said to be in Durham on a Utility pole.

Last week I had an appointment at WMRD 1150AM in Middletown. I had a friend bring me because I was having car trouble that day. Anyway driving back home on Route 9 I noticed a building that looked like a church with what looked like a large satellite dish next to it. Could that have been the studio of WIHS 104.9 FM?
MRD is still on the air? I thought the FCC shut the signal off and the building was condemed?? ::) I heard the state is taking it over and the new call letters are WHUD. The future GM is homeless person currently living in a dumpster on the north end of Main St. :D

Do you have to take every topic and turn it into a rant about your own personal beef with local radio? It has nothing to do with the topic.

Is money the reason they've always broadcasted in mono? I've always gotten them here in New Britain's south end with no problems.

If you scroll down here... http://www.necrat.com/wihs_pro.html , about 4-5 pictures down you'll see the studio building for WIHS.

How does WIHS measure listenership? Do they subscribe to Arbitron?

Wow... just happened to find this old topic, and had to respond! :)

WIHS is listener-supported. We rely upon direct listener support, so we hear from our listeners on a regular basis. Although not scientific, like Arbitron, it does provide the station with a reasonable gauge of listenership.

Also, I just tried that link to the NECRAT site... and it's GONE! A cyberhawker is trying to sell the domain! What gives? :(

According to the "Wayback Machine", it looks like the NECRAT site went down sometime in 2009. Sad. :(

Mike's site is very much alive, but the domain changed to necrat.us

Here's the updated link for WIHS:

http://www.necrat.us/1049hartford.html

Ah! That's better. :)

Yes, I can confirm that the transmitter site still looks exactly like this, (with one small exception) as I was just there less than 8 hours ago. :) Got a LOT done, too! :)

The exception is that another section was added to the tower, and an STL dish was installed atop it. The main antenna remains as it was, with the new STL dish above.

Is G.J. Girard still there? G.J and I were pretty good friends when I was chairman of the CT SBE chapter 14 back in the day.
Hope he's doing well. He was going to give me a tour sometime for the website, but I never got around to it before moving to Rhode Island in 2007.

Yes, he is my boss, in fact. :) Right now, he's away on vacation where it's warm. ;)
