As I see it, Johnny B. proved himself in the Chicago market over the past two decades. And he and The Loop were a good combo. I for one liked his show. Too bad the Evergreen regime in the '90's messed around with the talent too much (Brandmeier, Dahl, Meier, Matthews). That station (well, both 97.9 and AM1000) was practically destroyed by the suits!
As for the 'CKG contract, I think it was due to L.A., as well as a demand for more money from 'CKG. Details were always vague, but I think Johnny B. has more than once suffered from Garry Meier-itis, as far as blowing away contracts due to ridiculous demands, and finding himself unemployed.
I don't think there was any ill will with upper management. After all, he worked for 'CKG's sister station (KCBS) in L.A. for many years.<P ID="signature">______________
