Question about WODS

I had a strange memory recently, and I figured I'd throw it out there to the board. 103.3 WODS currently runs its station ID as "WODS Boston." Was there a time, say at least 10, maybe 15 years ago where the official city of license for 103.3 was Braintree? I remember, or think I remember, hearing a station ID about 15 years ago that was "WODS Braintree/Boston." If anyone has the answer, it would be appreciated.

I don't know of any station being licensed to Braintree but maybe you're
thinking of:

Nope, never was. 103.3 was WEEI-FM (1948-1983), WHTT (1983-1986), WMRQ (1986-1987), and then WODS (1987-present), all licensed to Boston.

The 103.3 transmitter was originally at the old 590 WEEI-AM (now WEZE) site in Medford, and was moved to one of the Route 128 Newton/Needham towers in 1973.

I definitely knew that WBOS was licensed to Brookline. Perhaps I was hearing things when I thought I heard the WODS Braintree/Boston ID. I was probably 10 years old at the time (I'm almost 25 now.) Thanks for the info, raccoon and Eli.

I think there was a pirate station down there in the mid-90's on 102.1, with a signal strong enough to (just barely) hit metro Boston. That's the only Braintree station I've known of.

WHDL, "We had Hot Dogs for Lunch" or "We Hate Dumb Listeners". I picked them
up in Salem (MA) once. They gave a request line number--I looked up the exchange and found it was Braintree. Shortly after that, the Globe had an article about the FCC shutting them down ("$10,000 fine if you go back on"). They used to be on all the time at a lower poweer, maybe 10 watts, but one day they decided to push
the envelope and go to 80 watts (so said the Globe article) and after a
complaint, I'm guessing, in came the FCC (picture that scene from "Pump
Up The Volume" when the feds move in on Christian Slater's pirate station)
