Question about WPRB 103.3

I religiously listen to WPRB 103.3 (Princeton University) all the time, but last night I was blown away by Nocturnal Transmissions with Dr Cosmo. I wanted to tape that myself but couldn't. So. if any of you out there did, please help me out. It was quite an experience hearing that at work, those of you who've heard it know what I mean, so I'd appreciate it if you can assist me. Thanks

No, 'PRB has NO web archive. WFMU has one though, a huge one going back several years. I wonder why other freeform stations don't do that. During this particular evening I was listening the old fashioned way, at work, not online, by the way.

a lot of non comms cant afford it.

Somehow I DON'T think that would be a problem for PRINCETON UNIVERSITY. Have you SEEN their tuition rates lately?? And just HOW IS IT that a Non-Comm made it to the middle of the dial? I have always wondered the answer to that while we're discussing it. Was it "Grandfathered" perhaps?

I
Must
Utter
Stupidity

;D

ANY publicity is better than NONE I suppose. Here come the ratings...

A non-comm is in the middle of the dial because WPRB is NOT a non-commercial station. I believe it's a non-profit station, but the license is commercial.

Huh? WPRB doesn't care about ratings. I don't believe it ever has.

You can't just record hours of copyrighted music and stick it on your website.
ASCAP / BMI / SESAC / RIAA wouldn't like that much. Anyone who does it
is taking a big chance, plus - it's a lot of work for little benefit.

WPRB is indeed a commercial station, they often have announcements
soliciting sponsors. They don't need ratings or revenue. Believe it
or not, it doesn't cost all that much more to run a Class B 50,000 watt
equivalent station than it costs to run a little cheezy one.
Princeton University has plenty of cash, and it's not all from tuition.

WFMU-I believe-requests waivers from the labels and/or artists in order to provide web archives. I think I heard Ken Freedman mention that on the air.

WPRB is, indeed a commercial, NFP station. Although physically located on the campus of Princeton University, WPRB is not directly affiliated with the college, especially financially. WPRB is run by students, busy students, who rarely have time on their hands to create and maintain archives and such. I have maintained an archive of live performances of artists on my program, Nocturnal Transmissions, at www.doctorcosmo.com/wprb/wprb.html (web site is currently being revamped), but do not archive the entire program. You will note some links to songs are missing. This is because BMI has long arms and have asked for their removal.
Also, yes, we were grandfathered in at 103.3, lucky us. And, yes, although 'PRB keeps itself fresh and relevant, it doesn't really care about the Arbs or any other ratings which is kind of liberating...

Cheers,
