Question about WTIX-FM tower

Watching coverage on a local station with video from south of new orleans, i saw a downed tower from what they narrated was near Port Sulphur. It was hard to estimate the size, but it was painted red and white and appeared to have FM bays side mounted near the top laying over a levee. Is WTIXs tower a painted tower of an unpainted tower???????

This is a story from 1987 about a tower in the same neighborhood.

What you saw may have been the old 106.7 KHAA tower; IIRC it was close to the levee.

WTIX-FM tower is combo'd with 104.5 and is (was?) pretty far back in the swamps away from the main Mississippi River levee. Don't think it was painted, but then again when I was there years ago I was more focused on the various swamp critters, bugs and vermin who were watching me...

Anyone had updates on (current) KKND tower down in Delacroix? Also the mighty 1510/KAGY around Empire?

Paul E. Burt / San Antonio

Is this the same Paul Burt that used to work at Clear Channel, New Orleans?

I worked with Skip Wilkerson who spent time at WTIX and WNOE in the 60's, and remember hearing about the guys manning the transmitter site, probably during an approaching hurricane, packing heat to dispatch snakes and critters from the walkways.

I too am very curious, as I was one of the supervisors of the construction of that tower. It was buiult to withstand a Cat 5, and the building was constructed 20 feet above ground to be above a typical storm surge.
