QUESTION ABOUT WVON

Since I live in Houston now I can't hear it off air, I ask this question here. Since
WVON has now moved to its own full time frequency, what has become of the time
on 1450 that they controlled before.

Old Chicago

From my understanding of my viewpoint, that someone had told me that WVON runs on 3 different frequencies outlet.

However, someone who is an outsider who is my cousin had told me that
Midway Broadcsting Co. owns three different radio stations on 3 different frequencies. Also along with the same program format too.

WRLL AM-1450, WJJG AM-1530, and WVON AM-1690.

Unless Joseph J Gentile sold WJJG AM-1530, Midway Broadcasting doesn't own that station, but might lease programming on that station. As for 1450, they're holding onto that license for the time being. In 3 years, they have the option of buying 1690 from CC, who still owns the station, but WVON is doing an LMA on the station. Since I don't hear 1450 in Gary, I don't know what's airing on 1450 during the time that WRLL (formerly WVON) holds. But I'm sure WCEV would like to acquire the other license for 1450, and make it a 24 hour station.

Perhaps you may be right! I bet you 10 to 1 that Joe Gentile is leasing out his station to Midway Broadcasting, because I haven't heard Joe on the radio lately anymore.

It been about a little over a year now that I'ved haven't herad Joe in the mornings, Alls I kept hearing is a bunch of African American programs replacing Joe's morning show.

So what does that tell you???...

Joe is not on the air at this time because he spends the winter in Boca Raton, Fl. and lets his staff run
the station. The African American show brokers the time from sign-on to about 7:15am or so.

You see? I was almost right!

The African American shows must be very big here in the Chicagoland radio market, because probably there are more of an audiance for African Americans that they want more shows like WVON AM-1690. And there are more African Americans that wants to produce more radio programs to target the African American audiances...
