Question/discussion for cceng, tibbs, those established pre 1996

I want to ask this on a local board not one of those read most frequently and dominated by folks that post 3 page responses every ten minutes. Now, the genie was let out in '96 and won't go back in the bottle the same way (if ever) but my question is this:

In light of the information and practices of News Corp in England which is quickly beginning to spread here what do you all there is a possibility of further ownership restriction/concentration of voice not just within individual markets but also total ownership/influence ("financing") to inhibit the opportunities of an individual or small group to be able to have such incredible influence over the general populace? If so, any guesstimate of time line?

Do the actions of News Corp justify the old rules of limited and cross media ownership?

After asking, I'll be rude and not participate much, just read. Y'all have a good weekend.
