A former co-worker is having some issues with Lexmark flash memory. I thought I'd pass it on to this forum to see if anyone else has had similar experience. Here it goes:
I've upgraded to the latest firmware per Marantz's instructions, and I've also reformatted my flash cards several times, but I continue to get the dreaded "Err Card 10" whenever I try recording anything for any longer than a few minutes. The VU meter freezes up, and the machine won't even respond to the power switch, so I need to take out the batteries to reset it!
I'm using Lexar Professional SDHC 4GB 133x cards: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0702/07021301lexar4gbsdhc.asp On the other hand, recording seems to be flawless when I use the 1GB Sandisk card that came with the unit, which is ironic considering that Marantz techs have in the past cautioned fellow radio reporters to specifically avoid Sandisk (they said Sandisk cards are made in a number of different factories in China, and their quality is inconsistent). But I've always had good luck with Lexar, and that's in fact the brand Marantz recommends. Also, I just spent 80 bucks on these new cards, so I'd hate to just get rid of them.
I spoke to a Marantz tech, and he didn't have any idea what could be causing the problem. I had a friend test my cards in her 661, and she had the same issues, so I know it's not a problem with my particular unit. Now I'm wondering whether the 661 can't read this type of card (which I suspect) or if it's simply a bad batch of cards that I need to return to Lexar (which the Marantz rep suggested). Has anyone else out there had any experiences (good or bad) using this card with this machine? Or does anyone out there have one of these cards lying around (perhaps for a digital camera) that you could pop in a 661 to see if it works?
Thanks for your help! Scott
