Question For Dude Fan

Howdy guys and gals this is a question that I know Steve will be able to answer (if he can)!!! I have been paying close attention to a lot of the ratings from WARQ which seem to be not doing as well as it once did... Can a station which is LP subscribe to the arbs??? Also since the ratings for ARQ have back slid how much of that could be attributed to WXRY pulling away ARQ's upper Demo... I know that the signal is not the greatest, but from what I hear on the web XRY if ever the chance came to move to a bigger stick yet keeps its independent sound could do very well in Columbia... Kinda curious... Have a good day guys... CC1

Caroll:

I don't know what is happening with WARQ. Non-comms and Commercial stations are not tabbed or ranked outside of the quarterly book and then again only in TAPSCAN. So its really hard to tell what is happening with anyone in the market, particularly in Columbia where you've got return issues and urban/hspanic weighting going on.

I still think there are a lot of folks just turning off the radio completely in this town! But I would really have to sit down with the market reports someday to prove/disprove that.

As for WXRY in particular, we subscribe to arbitron through our membership in the RRC, which deals strictly with non-comms. Under our subscription, there are limits to the type of data and the RRC limits what non-comm stations can do with it.

My consultants say that we still have a lot of room for growth given our current signal. If we managed to beg and plead and get a bigger stick, I suspect that there would be even more room for growth.

Thanks for the reply Steve... You guys have done an excellent job with what you have to work with... I think you guys are miles ahead of 96 WAVE and could do some good things if you had a bigger stick to play with... I have decided to come back to SC and visit and maybe we all can try to do a get together again... I remember the last time I wanted to do one that was when RI went through its big change, but I would still like to put a face behind a lot of the posters... It will be in late August right about the time my wife returns to school... Since they are moving to a new building this year I am sure I will be ready for a second vacation... CC1

Thanks for the Kudos.

Welcome back to town!

A radio-geek-get-together would be great! I know a couple places that would be perfect. If everyone is closer to Northeast, Solstice is a classy joint.

It will just be a visit... My wife is working on her masters in special education so it will be a few years before we ae able to really move anywhere... We have talked about in 5 to 10 years moving to TN, but we will see how that goes... I have been ask to consider a co manager training position with the Kroger company so that will also play a big part as to where we will wind up as also... CC1

Re: Question For Dude Fan Carroll

Hey nice to know Carroll, I work for the Kroger company as well here in the Columbia SC area!

Hopefully the realy awesome Kroger out near my place! Very nice store!

Anywho, let us know Carroll. We'll do a radio-geek-out with partners/spouses.

As you originally asked, the Winter Book came out today. I will wait to see what Bugz and some of the other guys say, but it looks like they very heavily weighed non-minority 18-34's.

WNOK did extremely well. So did WARQ, which turned in its best performance in years. WCOS took a beating. So did WLTY. No indication where those people went at all... other than just away.

Thanks for the kind words about our company... BTW Neil what do you do for Kroger??? Kinda curious... I have not had the chance to take a look at the winter book yet, but will give it a look... As for a radio geek get together I am all for it... I am pretty certain that I will be coming down in Aug... Heck if Phil and the gang let me I might have to do a one shot deal and play DJ for a few hours and see how Camden responds to me now that I have been yankeefied ;D ;D ;D... CC1
