Question for Hot 96 Portland

I heard a remake of (You keep me hangin on) on your station,,, I cant seem to find the right version, could you tell me who the artist is. Its either a 2007 or 2008 remake.

It's Rockell. I got it from her manager late last year (November of 2007) and it was supposed to be the follow up release to "Playing My Love." I think it was released in Canada on Odeon, but I never saw a domestic release of the single. It's to bad, it did real well for us and I still have it in recurrent status because it tests decently.

M W Clubber....you liked this??!!!??? I'm really surprised. I usually agree with you..our PD at Z889 pushed this record, now Rockell has been very good to us so I understand, but it bombed terribly .I love her but despised this remake.....Shame on you Hot 96...lol

I sometimes wonder about certain songs that listeners will latch on to. But what works for us, may not work for other stations. I had a certain "Artist" that was sending me remix after remix of the same record he did, and while the beats weren't bad, his off-key singing was absolutely dreadful. Problem was, he had built such a following up by just being an active member in the dance community, that everyone professed their love for his music. I didn't want to be the one to tell them the emperor has no clothes.

I am not saying this is what is up with the Rockell tune, I for one have always liked her stuff, and it seems to test well (In a Dream, Can We Try.) Do I think her version of "you keep me..." will still test good in 6 months? Hard to say. I just hope she hits some new material in the not-so-distant future.

Besides, I have heard worse remakes... ;D

In fact, in the last 5 years I have heard a few too many remakes!

recent charting tracks:

"Don't Stop Believing"
"Uninvited"

..and more!!

I know it's always been a constant with dance music in general, but I will echo what JP said, "where have all the good song writers gone?"

I heard you play a mix of Sonique's "It Feels So Good" - What remix was that?

That was a remix that was done by House-o-holics if I remember correctly. It was released on vinyl back when the song was new. When I was still spinning in clubs, that was the only mix I ever played of that track, I always thought the original 12" remixes sounded a little tooo laid back. Of course, back then I was still bangin' mostly Chicago Hard House and breaks!

Ahhh those where the days!

:)

I loved "uninvited" but think G Lamonds Journey remake is ridiculously bad.

I won't comment on his version, but I did hate the original with a passion. For that matter, Journey in general just got old to me (of course that will get me killed in the hallways here..)

Rockell's new track is a cover of Pat Benetar's "We Belong"

;)

For what it's worth, my station did very well with "You Keep Me Hanging On" for a while. But as happens with most remakes, when it started to go downhill it went downhill fast.

I think we need a 2008 remix of the "Hampster Dance."

Think about! PVD or Deadmau5 vs. Hampton the Hampster!

Someone make that happen.
