Question for Jax?

97.3 should be slightly better. It's 280 meters AMSL where 106.9 is 254 meters AMSL. The two signals should be pretty similar, though.
 
Since I reside on the Westside of Jax, I can answer your question. Based on my observation, 97.3 is slightly better on this side of town but they are both relatively weak.
 
Thank you guys. Its weird that people keep saying the same thing....the engineers at Iheart say otherwise, that 106.9 does better on the westside and Orange park area because it does not have any interference clouse by. They say the clouses 106.9 signal is in Gainesville 40 miles from their 60 dbu southwest of Orange vs. 97.3 which the clouses 97.3 is also in Gainesville 23 miles from their 60 dbu southwest of Orange park. I don't understand why they say that when people say 97.3 can be heard much better in those areas thatn 106.9.
 
97.3 is a 50kW C2 with a tower near Micanopy, just south of Gainesville. 106.9 is a 100kW C1, but their tower is short and considerably west of Gainesville. Although the WSKY 60dBu contour is closer to Jax than is the WKZY 60dBu contour, the signal from a C1 will travel further than will a signal from a C2. So, when we plot the co-channel 40dBu interfering contour from WPLL (106.9) and the 40dBu interfering contour from WSKY (97.3), they both reach Jacksonville. It is true that WSKY's interfering contour should be slightly worse than WPLL's, but this is likely counter-balanced by the fact that the 106.9 translator has a slightly weaker signal. So, even though the 106.9 translator is subjected to slightly less interference, it suffers from less initial rf in the area. The result? Well, it just depends upon the direction of the wind on any given day, I'd guess. Both translators are pretty good, so interference should only become an issue in the western fringes or on days when the signal bends over the horizon. On those particular days, I'd bet WPLL causes more interference than WSKY does.
