My history of the time is a little hazy but I remember, as a teenager, I was down somewhere on Oak Lawn, looking for, well I was down somewhere on Oak Lawn.

I bought a copy of Iconoclast and on the cover was a picture. It was a picture of a KLIF employee, unhappy about the sale of KNUS (?) I think. What I do remember is what he was doing to the marquee in front of KLIF. It read "F... Gordon's A.."

Is any of this true and if so, can you fill in any of the blanks?

i don't recall that but you may be referring to the time that mclendon sold klif in early '72...he did not sell knus until '79...might be a good question for ken dowe...

Believe it or not, the downtown Dallas Library has the Iconoclasts all cataloged on microfilm. The images are not in very good shape, but the reels are...might be worth a trip to check it out. 7th floor, I believe.

Sounds like something Selden might have done!

Thanks Steve. It would have been in 72 so it must have been anger over the sale of KLIF.

That was Selden!!! He didnt harbor any thoughts about being silence on the subject.

It was radio then.

I do recall a newspaper ad from that time that said "Will the last person leaving KLIF please turn off the lights."

I was working at KNUS in '72-'73 and again '75-'77 (went by the air name Christopher Haze back in the day).

KNUS ran an ad (I think it was in the Dallas Morning News, maybe the Times-Herald), about a 1/8-page ad, black and white, that had a graphic of a light bulb, and the captain read, "Will the last person leaving KLIF please turn out the lights?" At the bottom was the KNUS 99 FM logo.

That's probably what you're thinking of.

I arrived at KNUS in June of '72, and I can't recall now if the ad had already run or if it ran soon after I arrived. In any case, I remember seeing it. Either way, I'm sure it was 1972 when the ad ran. And I'm pretty sure it only ran a time or two.
