Question for the board?

In a market that is hip and cosmopolitan I pose the following question to the board. Can you have 2 gay on air personalities in a format targeted toward heterosexual men? Would this work or is it a stretch given the conservative nature of southern thinking?

Are you saying that Atlanta is hip and cosmopolitan, or is it conservative because of southern thinking?

And are you talking about people who have gay lives outside of radio but don't call attention to it on the air, or are they doing something gay on the air? And if so, what?

Much like the previous poster referred to, I think it might be possible if their sexual preferences weren't a topic of conversation. Make an issue of it though and I'd think it's still possible ... just no chance of it being anything more than marginal at best.

100% unequivocally NO. It wouldn't work. Think about the primary topics discussed on male-driven shows....chicks and sex. And male listeners won't stand for other men with no cred. How are two gay guys gonna pull off talking about women and sex with any cred? You'll see two gay guys hosting a show for men when you see Rhubarb Jones do mornings on V-103. Next question.

Like everybody else said, I don't think it would work if that was your 'thing'. I also don't think it would work if you were trying to be someone you are not. If you are 'hiding' all of this from your listeners and instead come off as fake, it wouldn't work at all.
Women LOVE gay guys ... so I think you could connect with them, not the good ol' southern boys.

But Good Luck trying.

I think the best bet for that format would be one extremely heterosexual male, and one butch gay male. More possibilities for discussion.

Both.
I'm thinking more along the lines of a format hole. Not a gay radio station but a station targeted towards the life group. I'm thinking music not talk but jock chatter would be targeted toward the gay lifestyle.

"Was this question supposed to be on the "790 shaking up the lineup" thread?"

Now that's what I call comedy!

"Damn you Temp! You beat me to the punch again."

Only because I have no life at the moment and log on here more often, I'm sure.

Call me naive, but how exactly would you target gay people? Aren't they supposed to be just like everybody else?

That's an honest question. I mean, apart from the obvious, um...activities, how are they different in a way that you can base an entire radio station around it? ???

Besides, didn't they already try B****s and Bob on two different stations?

***name edited for fear of lawsuit.

First of all What the hell kind of question is that ??? 2nd of all the question itself is gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that ;D
