question for the old timers

Back in 1964-65 I was a DJ on what was then WAPC, Riverhead. I used to listen to a station accros the pond in New England that did a routine they called "Service Six". It was short annoncements on everything from stamp collecting to recipes, but was useally interesting. Can any one tell me what station that was? It was AM of course in those days, and probably in the 600 KHz range but I've long since forgotten. I left the Island in 1965 to go in the Air Force and never returned.

Thanks for all the information. I was even contacted by an old co-worker over this one. That history site is great!

Check the HISTORY tab on their site

Check the section with the early 1960's WICC jingles. There are some Service 6 jingles in there IIRC.

They later called themselves Service 60. Up until the late 1990's, they were still a great station. Sadly, they too have been ruined by corporate ownership and are now a shell of their former self in my opinion.

For a few hours once a week they still sound halfway normal. On Sunday mornings from 6 till 9 am, Al Warren is on, playing "oldies" with jingles, contests, and personality.

I've gotta roll tape while that is still happening. It's hard to find radio on radio anymore.

Actually, I omitted the fact that Mr. Warren is also on Saturday mornings from 6 till 10 am as well as that Sunday shift I previously mentioned. WICC also streams online at www.wicc600.com.
