> You may have already mentioned this on a thread,
> but I'm curious: When did Tim Conway and Ernie
> Anderson host late-night movies in Cleveland, and
> on what channel? I've heard they did comedy routines
> during breaks in the movies, with Ernie as straight man.
B Patrick: Below is a copy/paste of a listing I did In a retro thread in May 2005 which should give a brief explanation of the Anderson/Conway relationship
Cleveland/Youngstown/Erie Wednesday Sept. 13, 1961
WJW 8 CBS
9AM Movie The Fountainhead 1949 (Ernie's Place)
This Movie slot was hosted by Ernie Anderson who later would become a sensation as Horror Movie Host Ghoulardi before moving out to California in 1966, eventually becoming the announcing "Voice" Of ABC. He was assisted by Tom (Tim) Conway a native Clevelander who was "discovered" by Rose Marie for Steve Allen's Show. Conway had to be "fired" by channel 8 for him to go out to Hollywood to take a chance. He starred in McHales Navy and Carol Burnett among other series. Conway was actually from Chagrin Falls, Ohio. End of Quote
The Movie Slot they worked together on was a Morning movie. Conway had left Cleveland by sometime in 1962 Eventually to work on McHales's Navy..Anderson did "Ghoulardi" from 1963-66, assisted by a Channel 8 director, Chuck Schodowski behind the scenes. When Anderson left for Hollywood Schodowski took over the Late Night Friday Movie with Bob "Houlihan" Wells (As Houlihan and Big Chuck) And later a Downtown Cleveland Jeweler, John Rinaldi..Took Wells' place..I think The show is still on Saturdays as "Big Chuck and Little John"
