Question Of Radio Produced Music Shows

Hey everyone, long time reader of the board but haven't posted until now. I have a question for those of you who could likely answer a question on radio production. My previous radio employer recently asked if I could produce a two to three hour radio show of Christmas music from my own personal (owned and purchased collection) for air on his AM station. This would be produced on my home studio and mailed to him to air over the broadcast airwaves. Am I responsible for any licensing of copyrighted music on the CD I mail to him to play over the air or his radio station the one that would pay any music fees for BMI and the like? I'm not sure and I didn't know how the fees are paid or who would pay them. Last thing I want to do is wind up in court or owing money for a show produced for this individual with music I have in my own purchased collection ???. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Broadcast Rights

The broadcaster is responsible for having the correct licenses in place. If he's covered by BMI and ASCAP, there's not likely to be any problem.

If you were to broadcast your program on the web, you'd be responsible for rights fees.

Each station is responsible for its own content, no matter what the source is. I can't imagine a station existing that doesn't have the proper BMI & ASCAP licensing. Even news/talkers have bumper music and syndicated content that requires licensing.

Correct. Just make certain that the station does pay music licensing feels to ASCAP, BMI & SESAC. That's up to the broadcaster.

Purchasing music either inside the station or from your own collection does not waive paying any royalties.
