Why does everyone think that whoever buys 104 will change formats? That would be ridiculous and whoever made that decision would win the dumbass of the year award. There is no way anyone should consider flipping the number 5 station in the city. Personally I hate the crap they play but it gets good ratings, and although another format could be as successful, why get rid of something that is not struggling?

I do believe that has been the consensus among the board.
One or two dissenting opinions does not equal "everyone".

My company has tendered an offer to buy KRBE for $89M that is currently under consideration. If the bid is successful we ae going to change the station format to Celine-FM. It will be Celine Dion every hour, every day, every week, every month, every year for the rest of your life.

Our playlist will only be 1 Celine Dion song over and over and over again. Our revenues will jump sky high as people in droves will tune in because they can't believe that a station would play the same song over and over and over again.

You will be glued to the station, day after day, year after year, just waiting in anticipation for us to play a new song. You'll be thirsting for it... You will be hypnotized, spellbound, in a trace, and our advertisers will be throwing money at us left and right.

Also keep an eye on the horizon for John-Tesh-FM..... :)
 
Leave 104 the way it is!

Over the 35 years, 104 has been THE greatest Top 40 Music station-of all time! 104 has been the "Going all the way, every single step of the way" music station. It has gone through one generation after the next. If Susquehanna sells it to Cox or Infinity, Things will remain the same. There could be some speculation that 104 might flip to a "Jack" format; Therefore if this happens-CC would flip The Mix or The Arrow-to Kiss FM. We're getting tired of listening to crappiest music we've ever listened-Mexican. CC sold 3 of its stations in New Orleans-WQUE (Q-93.3), WYLD 98-5, and KSTE(Praise 104.1) over to Radio One. This is the first time Radio ONE has enter the New Orleans area, which is predominately African-American. It has stations in Atlanta; Dallas; Cleveland,OH; Detroit; Baltimore; Washington, DC; Chicago; and Philadelphia. Radio ONE owns KBXX and KMJQ here.

Don't worry my friend. All signs point to KRBE staying relatively the same as it has been.
I don't consider Spanish a possibility on KRBE at all. It's still early in that one year waiting period that the major companies are sitting out. Everybody wants to see what the trends are for Spanish language stations after a year before they decide to invest in further stations.

A Kiss FM would be truly dreadful.
104 may play the same "crap" over and over again but it's what their target audience wants to hear. They play a much better mix than 95% of the top 40 stations I've heard.
Compared to the Kiss stations, they play much less rap with a better mix of pop, dance and rock.
Compare KIIS in LA and KRBE. You'll notice a sharp difference in the variety of the playlist. KIIS's rhythmic leaning has gotten them impressive numbers, but it makes me thankful we still have good ol' 104.

104's music has almost have just a little bit of everything; Their music primarily targets to kids, and their parents.The parents first choice for music in their Mini-Vans and SUV's has always been 104. It's also the radio station preferrred by Soccer Moms. 104's playlist has almost a little bit of everything. From Rap to Hip-Hop to Bubblegum to Alternative. 104 has Today's Hit Music-for everybody!

The fact that a station is doing well has nothing to do with whether or not a company that might buy it will make the right drcision on what to do with it.
I have worked at stations where we were #1 in the ratings, and were billing the highest of anyone in towm, then were bought by a company and they changed the format.
You all are thinking that someone that would buy it would have any brains at all, and that is just not the case.

Excellent post and 100% true. No matter who buys KRBE is going to want to put their "brand" on 104.1 and that will mean changes. Infinity and Cox have been mentioned, don't rule out anyone. Univision, Cumulus, or a corporation not even in the Houston market at this time. Liberman is even a candidate to get a city signal, even if it means selling a couple of rimshot stations. LBI could gain the most, a city signal and sell two rim shots and they are back down to the max of eight stations and no longer over the limit, or not over the limit depending on if there is "grandfathered" stations that allows a company to own nine stations in the Houston market.

I would like to see Cumulus buy them, keep them the way they are, Believe it or not, I can Capture KQXY Beaumont out at Lavaca county almost all the time, I like there playlist, they have dance pop remixes in also. They might would even re-launch the beat if they owned it. I just would hate to see a good pop station like 104 to switch to something else. If that factors in, then I might half to go with XM. I'm about fed up with radio up here in Central texas anyways. <P ID="signature">______________

Are you sure about that, and when was this? Clear Channel still owns all 3 stations.

The old saying that has murdured many radio stations. "We can do better and it worked in New York!
