Question on music selection for all u dj's

Why does Altoona need 2 classic rock stations? For one thing, we hear the same songs over and over again. Songs we have heard for 30 years. Why don't classic rock bands get there new stuff played? I have yet to hear any new Whitesnake from the awesome 'Bad to be good' album or new Uriah Heep (great album). I could go on and on with naming bands. How about someone taking a chance and playing something different? What about some rock/metal from the European scene. There is some awesome stuff out there. Bands/Artists like Masterplan, Hammerfall, Nightwish, Eden's Curse, Jorn, Jaded Sun, etc. All of it hard rocking fun. Everyone I know who hears bands like this loves them. Most people I know barely listen to the radio because it is the same stuff. I understand that there are program directors and management to answer to, but if you want listeners, you have to keep us interested. Someone, anyone, take the leap. Try starting a weekend show or something. Promo the hell out of it and let it rip. And with the internet, it's a piece of cake to find and get. I'm not trying to come across as mean-spirited. I'm just very passionate about this. I will look forward to your replies. Thanx!

The Q is off the dish, no chance to do much now.

Forever policy is: "We are not in the entertainment business, we're in the SALES business".

Being in the 'sales' business means needing to generate revenue. To generate revenue, you need listeners so advertisers will want to do business with you. If no one is listening, why would I want to part with my business dollars to have my commercial aired on a station no one is listening to. FM Radio needs to adapt to the ever increasing competition. But it looks as though they want to bury their head in the sand. 95% of the time I listen to my iPod or Rhapsody player instead of my radio because of radio's stagnation. Although, I give kudos to Jay Randall. He will play different stuff if you request it. He's pretty good about that. I especially love it when he hosts Big Hair Saturday Night because he definitely mixes it up.

No need to worry, if you don't like what's on the air today, we're always just moments away from another spin of the Forever Broadcasting Wheel of Formats.
After all FOREVER stands for...Forever changing formats and signals. I'll stick with
Mix 94.7 and the Satellite.
This is the Allnitesatelite signing off.

For some of that "METAL" you talked about. Try "The Metal Shop" on QWK ROCK 103.1 from 10pm til Midnight on Saturday nights.

The All Night Satelite seems to be a jockular individual. I wonder if he knows anything about satelite TV. I'm experiencing some trouble with my dish on the fry wagon.

Fryman..If you already have the dish installed make sure its level with an unobstructed view to the south, likely your getting signal from satellite 110 or 119. Use you compass and pole level to confirm an accurate set up.

Use the link in Resources to get the azimuth, skew and elevation angles for your specific zip code. You need to lock in a satellite signal as high as you can get it. Dish Network receives signals as high as 125. The number lock should be at least 70, and the higher you can go the better.

If you have any other questions let me know, or bring the fry wagon around. I usually hang out at Texas Hot Dogs downtown from 11 - 2 in hopes the Messiah Obama will return.

boston0477 I hear ya! However, its not that easy to play obscure or "never before" heard music. From what I gather the playlists are relatively tight and are based upon charting and financial success. For instance; ZZ Top; I band I believe to be rather mundane at best; nevertheless sold a bajillion albums and topped the charts back in the late 70's and early eighties; so you will hear "Cheap Sunglasses" included in the rotation; again and again. To echo some of the other posters on here; it's all about the money. The top brass see the success of a song like "Cheap Sunglasses"; think that the "masses" (ever dwindling) enjoy this song immensely, so it is included on the rotation.

I miss the old days when one could play some rather obscure bands like Crack the Sky; Tygers of Pan Tang and some "local flavor" such as "Ian Timothy" and get away with it. Since I was associated with such a small radio station in podunk; perhaps no-one was listening to make a fuss :p; However, regardless, I surmise that those days are over!

Satellite, although the rotation is far greater; and yes you will hear more obscure sounding tunes, yet I'm not sure it is worth the expense. I-pod, napster and rhapsody are far better; and I'm starting to question the quality of the downloads. Call me old fashioned and I prefer the good old CD!

I try to point the dish at whatever network I want to receive. In other words, for CBS stuff, I point it to WTAJ-TV 10, the Gables station, for NBC stuff like Leno, I aim toward channel 6 in Johnstown. I'm not sure why I can't pick up ABC...just where in the hell are they? Johnstown or Altoona and their news looks like it coming from channel 6. I don't know all that stuff you're telling me about satelites. My main concern is keeping the grease hot enough and changed often enough in order that my fries don't taste like fish. I thought those numbers from the azmith or axsmith or whatever you were telling me about was giving me the outside temperature. No wonder the summers have seemed so cool and the winters warm. I was blaming it on this danged global warming. At any rate, thanks for the advice. You have a jumbo order of fries coming next time you visit the fry wagon and make yourself known to me. Simply mention "promo code 13-F.

For ChuckUFarley: Thanksbut I tried that and couldn't pull in a signal in Altoona. Where are they located?

And for Rod Glassgow: I understand what your saying. But my point is there will never be new classics if they don't get played in the first place. A one hour show of new stuff. See how it catches on. Growing up in Boston back in the day (70's and 80's) I was wicked spoiled. WAAF, WHJY, WCGY, WZLX, WCOZ, WBCN, WEEI were the best. Now I have WRKY and WBXQ. Oh, and Froggy which probably has great reception in hell as well as all of PA. I tried XM and didn't like it. I was changing stations constantly. That's why I gravitate toward Rhapsody and iTunes. More Rhapsody than anything now. Do me a favor. Go to my myspace page and listen to some of the tunes I'm talking about. You tell me, would these be good songs for radio or not?
