Question on WFAA

We have WFAA on 8.1 and 8.8. The only change I can see is 8.8 comes from Decatur (closer to me) and includes Twist (not exactly sure what that is). Did they implement channel 8 on channel 8.8 because 8.1 was so hellacious to pick up?

i think the 8.8 signal is actual from digital channel 30 which is (virtual) 8.8 is the primary channel, and 8.9 as the first subchannel and 29.1 as the 3rd subchannel. it's also the reason WFAA is no longer in 1080i on 8.1.

8.1 is from WFAA RF8, while 8.8 is from KMPX RF30. Both transmitters are at the Cedar Hill tower farm. Tegna owns both stations for now; a planned sale to Cox Media Group is awaiting approval of the Standard General-Tegna acquisition.

An agreement is in place for the two stations to swap programming, call letters, and virtual channel numbers. Then the RF8 license will be sold to Estrella Media, which was the previous owner of KMPX. The RF30 signal is considered the better of the two.

RF30 is MUCH better! It was HELL three years ago trying to get WFAA. Do we know when the sale will happen, and if I understand you, 8.1 and the subchannels will move to 8.8 with 8.1 being Spanish?

Do we know when the sale will happen,
Still being evaluated by the FCC, so up in the air.
and if I understand you, 8.1 and the subchannels will move to 8.8 with 8.1 being Spanish?
The two stations will swap programming, call letters, and virtual channels. The RF30 signal will have the 8.x virtual channels, while RF8 will have the 29.x group. After a rescan, everything will essentially be the same for viewers other than an improved signal for the virtual 8.x channel group. So the main WFAA channel should remain 8.1, transmitted on RF30. I’m guessing the duplicate 8.8 would disappear.
