Question re: 104.7 FM

On Sunday I was out running some errands in the car (around 5pm) and happened to be dialing around the FM band. I heard a show playing Reggae at 104.7. It sounded like a dx station from my area out here in the eastern suburbs of Sac. I've checked the Radio Locator site but all I can find is KVMR's LP (K284AG) way out past Woodland which shouldn't even put out a signal this far since its only 10 watts. I heard the jocks mention "Vacaville and Fairfield" in a break but I see nothing listed for that frequency in that area. Later I heard what sounded like Free Speech Radio News or something similar. Anyone have any idea what station this is?

It is KVMR's Woodland translator, K284AG. Although it's only ten watts, it's line-of-sight to pretty much the entire Sacramento metro, and the only interference is from an LPFM (KCYC-LP) in Yuba City and KHTN (Hot 104.7) in Planada (way down by Merced). So reception is sketchy on a clock radio or portable, and the only building penetration is at Cache Creek Casino. But it works OK in automobiles or with an outdoor antenna, especially if you have a clear view to the West. It often gets covered up by pirates in Sacramento, and I fully expect the existing coverage won't last after the LPFM window, but that is what you heard.

Yep! I listened again yesterday long enough to hear the ID's. The reception wasn't as good as the first time I heard it but it was still listenable in the car. I'm shocked that 10watts radiates that far! Thanks Dave B.!

It's a good translator for what it is.

It was built by EMF to be a Air1 translator. They usual build a site right.
