question RE: Joey Reynolds

Last week I produced a show for Joey Reynolds who is syndicated out of NY. He was in town visiting marine recruits on Parris Island, SC. Our station was nice enough to let him and his guests broadcast out of our station via our ISDN line. As for my question.........I know that he is on WFTL now, but did he ever work at a station with Neil Rogers?? I hear there may have been some beef between the two.....anyone have any of the details of their beef?? Im not trying to stir up anything, just curious as to what happened?? Has anyone on here ever worked with Joey Reynolds...... If so, your thoughts/opinions on the man.

Joey came to Miami in 1987 - to do morning for then AOR WSHE. Yes, it was strange as it sounds. At about the same time, Neil moved from middays at WINZ to mornings at Zeta, which was competing against WSHE and WGTR. Neil made a lot of fun of Joey, and subsequently beat him in the ratings. Joey was eventually replaced - Neil eventually moved to WIOD. Joey ended up doing some weekend shifts on WIOD. Neil, of course made fun of Joey, just as he rips everyone he works with. Joey's mistake was he shot back with cheap shots - and since, by that time, Neil WAS WIOD, Joey only alienated potential listeners and of course gave Neil more fodder. I don't know how much was shtick and how much was really "bad blood" whatever, Joey was doomed at WIOD. Years later, Joey ended up on WOR and - good for him - he finally found humility and a GREAT gig that has lasted.

Just a guess but I would bet it was really nothing personal. I grew up listening to Joey on WKBW Buffalo and I have met Neil when he worked at WNWS. When I met Neil I was sure he would rip me a new one but you know he was as nice as could be. He even said nice things about the station I was working for while he was on the air. So I would say their argument was all for show and they just kept topping each other, Neil won. Now I could see it starting out as good natured fun but turning nasty. You know how egos can be! Joey also had Imus cuss him out on the air when they both worked at WNBC.

Their was a time in talk radio especially at WNWS where the hosts would say the wildest things and they had you believing they really felt a certain way but it was all a ploy to get callers....so it's all a game.

Neil wins? WOR is nothing?

Good point, Joey is also on the WOR network. Neil probably makes more money but the real measure of success is who is happier with their position. I hope they both are.
