Question re: mini mixer

After fruitless searches on ebay, google and even a stop in to Radio Shack, I figure the best place to ask would be you experts.

As a VO talent, I'd like set up my laptop and be able to record tracks, VO assignments etc, remotely.

I'm looking for a mini mixer board with some sort of tone control and stereo.

Any of you pros have any suggestions ?

Thanks,

For about fifty bucks or less, the Behringer UB802 mixer does a decent job. Check out the guitar stores in your area.

More upscale: Yamaha MW (USB) series is better sounding and of course, any of the small Mackies are excellent.

But do you actually need to pack around a mixer just to input quality audio? A popular solution is to use a dedicated USB or Firewire oriented interface box, such as the MAudio 410, MobilePre USB or Edirol UA-25, and do eq and processing in a suitable editing program.

I've used the Edirol UA-25 with a laptop and Adobe Audition and the results were pretty good. The UA-25 is small and light and I was able to fit the Laptop, cables, 2 mics and the UA-25 in a laptop backpack no problem. I took it to Disney World for remote broadcast and was able to record interviews with ease. You'll have mic one on the left channel and mic two on the right. It actually works better that way for editing, much like VoxPro, and you can combine the channels later when the editing process is done.

I've got Pro Tools on my laptop, but the idea is the same...

Use a small footprint audio interface ( like the Mbox or whatever ) and go straight into it.

As long as it has XLR inputs...

I have begun using a small Mic PreAmp before I go into the MBox...it's made by True Systems, called the P-Solo...it's awesome...

Anyway, I go mic, preamp, Mbox, right into the computer...

Any other audio, i just use the CD / DVD drive built into my computer to pull of music trax or SFX...although, most of those, I have on a dedicated hard drive...

It's all pretty compact...
