Question regarding KRBE/KIOL

Out of curiosity and complete ignorance, now that Cumulus owns both 103.7 and 104.1, what are the chances of a 103.7 upgrade? Does the fact that one company owns both frequencies set up any possible scenario(s) where the FCC would allow 103.7 to have a much stronger signal than it does now?

Thanks in advance for any info!

No...FCC rules still preclude any upgrade...Two Class Cs under current rules must be ~61 miles apart....in cases where they were short spaced or could be short spaced because one was a grandfathered station (pre 1964 spacing rules), it could happen....but this one aint...

None. Spacing issue with co-channel KOUL in Corpus.

My hopes is that, that will never happen.

Re: Question regarding KRBE/KIOL..WAH?

Folks, do you really think that they would slaughter that cash cow?
I like my rock music as much as everyone else but I don't actually foresee KIOL replacing KRBE.

Unless they can grow an active rocker but that is a very far stretch.

I doubt KRBE's CHR-pop signal would end up at the weaker 97.5 signal, and KFNC's news-talk to 104.1.

Cumulus and its partners just announced the proposed acquisition. They do not own the Susquehanna stations yet, and announced that it would be arojnd mid-2006 before this deal goes through. It has not even filed with the FCC.

Thanks for the clarification... would there be any applicable rules/precedence for stopping the deal that you are aware of?

I think that this will happen mid-2006 -

KIOL to 104.1
KFNC to 103.7
KRBE to 97.5

might as well stir the pot.

I was kidding. A three way swap? All three stations involved? That is way out of the realm of possibility, isn't it? Even with Cumulus involved?

Read my recent one? KRBE would be better on 97.5, and I'd want Mix 96.5 to lean urban to its hot AC format and be like Star 94 Atlanta, Mix 98-5 Boston or Q102 Cincinnati. KFNC would be on 104.1. Leave KIOL alone on 103.7. If clear listeners can't pick up KRBE, then they'll be split between 96.5, 97.9 & 104.9 for their fix.

There has been no indication that this one needs DOJ approval before the Commission can approve. That, should it occur, would slow it down.

It looks like this would take about 120 to 180 days to go through. This is aguess based on other bigger deals, not a reality.
