Question Regarding Older TPIR Episodes

I've been watching TPIR for many years. And I have always been wondering. As to why we don't see older episodes
say from 1972-2000.

Is it because:

Fremantle won't allow them to be shown?

Bob Barker won't allow them to be shown. Because older episodes have fur coats as prizes. And because Barker is an
animal rights advocate he won't allow it?

Because of the many feuds there have been between Barker & previous models ( Diane, Janice, Holly, Kathleen,Claudia)?

With the show very popular. It would make sense. To run them again....

It's well known that Barker won't allow episodes with fur coats to be shown, which would limit the number of available shows (how many showcases had Zinman furs??).

Other than a best-of DVD collection, a la Match Game, there's nowhere to show the old episodes, with GSN's contract long expired. (And GSN did OK after losing them, so there's no incentive to match a price they feel is unreasonable.)

If you go on GSN.com's message board, this is probably the most asked question on their board. The most common reason I hear, outside of Barker's refusal to air episodes that featured furs, is both CBS and Fremantle wanting to "protect" the reruns while the current show is still on the air, and also GSN not wanting to the spend extra money to re-acquire the rights. The TPIR reruns is to tied to those of the 1994-95 season of Family Feud (Dawson's comeback).

For the '94-'95 Feud season, I'd use quotation marks around "comeback." Admittedly, I liked the Combs version of Feud better than Dawson (yes, I said it), but even still, that season of Feud was painful to watch. There are times when comebacks are ill-advised, and that was one of them.

I believe it was only the first couple of seasons of daily episodes (but the entire run of the weekly syndicated Dennis James version) where furs were offered as prizes, I don't know that any were offered once the show became an hour-long program in 1974/1975. So that's a good 30-some-odd years of episodes that could be repeated.

If the new host crashes and burns, CBS should just throw-up the classic episodes in the 11:00/10:00am hour and see how they perform. I'd bet they'd be surprised.

I think furs were offered as prizes at least occasionally up until the early-1980s.

What about limited DVD releases of special TPIR episodes such as the six from 2002 involving all the military branches as well as Police/Fire? That would make a great episode set. Same with the six 1986 prime-time specials, in addition to the best-of idea floated elsewhere in this post.

What about Dicker & Dicker of Beverly Hills? Oh wait...i think that was Hollywood Squares ;D

They really should run the classic shows. How many times during a show. Has Bob said to Roger. " We are making TPIR history, when was the last time a contestant won this game that fast"? "1979 I think Roger"? Roger: (nodding yes 1979!) It would be nice to see that episode from 1979 again.Roger!
