Question: What happens to station produced music if there is a format change?

Example: I am going DEEP here. The fall of 1997 Max 95.7 had Edwin McCain the their "Living Room", they recorded an acoustic version of "I'll be". the material was great, and Max played the hell out of it as we all know. Max changed formats to "Jammin Gold" in the month of May in 1998, what happened to that Edwin McCain track? Does that get returned to the artist upon such an occasion? Just curious. That is just one example of MANY locally produced tracks from former radio stations that you don't hear anymore. Have a great Weekend!!!!!

For some reason, I recall the Foo Fighters version of "Everlong" performed on the Stern show, which was in semi-heavy rotation on WXRK/92.3 in New York, still being played sporadically on the station in the post-Stern period in which it was "Free-FM".

Then earlier this year, on 92.3 K-Rock, I heard a completely different acoustic version of "Everlong". It's as if WXRK is trying very hard not to play the studio version...

Re: Question: What happens to station produced music if there is a format change

I think it stays with the station. Hot hits 98 had a custom version of we built this city. In 1998, when Q102 had the 98 reunion, they played it. So obvisously, someone at OGL had kept it in good condidtion all those years, since at the end of the reunion they thanked OGL for abunch of airchecks, and such.

Ofcoarse at the time they still had the same studios from the hot hits days. So things may have sat around in boxes. They have since moved, which probably means they have alot less (if anything) from those days now.
