Question, who owns .1057the hog.

Just got a call from the King of Underground Radio telling me about a format on a station out of Crossville that he really liked. Naturally I have no idea who owns what but I told him I knew a nest of Radio wantabees, has beeeens and might beees that would.

Here is the website if that will help you?

Edification is much needed and appreciated!

It was owned by Kirk Tollett and his wife. They transferred it to a Kevin Adams in Florida late last year in exchange for cancellation of a 600,000 dollar note. Kirk was still running it until recently, but he's run into some legal problems, so I have no idea who's running it now. But Kevin Adams now owns it.

I did listen to a little of the HOG (courtesy of the scan button) tonight from about 9:45 to 10:30. Locked on easy in west Blount. Not too shabby, at least it seems to be something a little different than what's in the Knoxville metro. Classic Hits they brand it. Classic IMZ type rock is gone....most of what I heard was smooth late 60's stuff. I remember hearing California Dreamin' and Love Me Do.

Prior to going to "hog heaven," 105.7 used to be "South 105.7" for many years, with a more localized country playlist, mixed with Southern rock. "South 105.7" used to include Knoxville in their legal ID for most of that time, too. Eventually, WWSR (its calls during that time) suddenly morphed into "Music Radio WLSQ" (a cheap knock-off of Chicago's WLS, more or less). A few months later, "The Hog" was born.

105.7 Musicradio WLSQ was well done despite many folks pointing out its weakness -- no ad sales to keep the format on the air. The Hog is unique, has a great coverage for its power/location and has good playlist. We need something here other than country (any kind), AC and classic rock. The Hog is not as good as Musicradio WLSQ, but it's better than 80-90% of what else is on the dial.

Actually "The Hog" was born before that. It was at 92.7 before they decided to sell that frequency. They moved "The Hog" over to 105.7 thus killing off WLSQ. "The Hog" is good for the most part. My only beef with them is if they are going to be "classic hits", they need to ditch the Hot AC music they throw in occasionally.

The thing that strikes me as funny about this station is the name and imaging. It is a pop based classic hits station, but the imaging and name is left over from when it was a harder classic rock station. The other night, I heard the deep voice/classic rock imaging guy doing the "105-7 The Hawg" sweeper followed by George Micheal's "Just One More Try". I almost rolled on the floor laughing at how goofy and out of place the imaging sounded. Musically, they are interesting, but they really need to update the name and imaging to better reflect the current format. They should just return to the WLSQ imaging as it would fit better with the current format.

I would not call Music radio WLSQ a "cheap Knock off". They may have had a fault here or there but In my opinion (ya know what they say, opinions are like......noses, we all have one) , they were much better than much of what we have on the radio now.

But then again, I was on the air back when radio was fun, was not corporate controlled and stations did not all sound alike.

Those days are sadly missed and people wonder why the medium is dying.

Well, I'm all for nostalgia, but tacking another letter onto "WLS" was a little too hard for me to take, I guess...

So, I guess "The Hog" must have killed off the old "Breeze 92.7" (WBZH). I was unaware, as I sort of lost interest of that particular radio holding ever since "South," well, went south...

Love the format as is! OK, so the moniker "hog" doesn't really fit (and some of the transitions between songs can be a bit jarring), but it doesn't matter, I think the music mix is great - I live in north Knox County and I have the station on my first round of pre-sets in the car. I like the local sound of the station - just wish I could pick it up more clearly - would love to see a simulcast tower in Knox County!

I know just the translator! The Hog needs to take over 107.3. Victory 92.7 sure doesn't know how to use it.

Let me go on record as saying "I LOVE this station!" Local personalities, contests, energy, and fun. A REAL radio station, authentic to the Classic Top 40 format. I just about died when I heard Redbone's "Witch Queen of New Orleans" last week. Last time I heard that on the radio was when I played it in Orlando, back in 1996! These guys are having fun on-the-air and it shows. Reminds me of a happier time when that's what radio was all about.

The 105.7 signal gets "iffy" in parts of Knoxville. But I have it full quieting and solid on a $20 portable here on the west side of town.
