John Shepler got out of radio in 1979 and went to work for Sundstrand Aviation. He was coaxed back to help out WYBR by John R. W. Wailin, who had left WROK to go to work there. WYBR was a horrible mess, and while Shepler didn't want or need the headaches, he agreed that he would help them out, provided they begin a search for a new engineer at once. The plan was to get a young guy that Shepler could mentor.
I'm glad to say I was the guy. I spent 6 months under his tutelage, and then took over as CE of WYBR. As far as I know, John never worked in radio again.
