I have a queston somebody might be able to help me out with. Why have WSB, WAGA and WXIA not been showing there own doppler radar systems here recently? Instead, they have been showing us "level 2" radar data from the National Weather Service, mostly from the NEXRAD site in Peachtree City?

WSB has their doppler radar site in Haralson County right? If that is right, then they have been using it as part of the "Early Warning Doppler 2 Radar Network." WAGA has their Doppler right there at their studios on Briarcliff Road, I think I have seen them use it some in the last few weeks.. I don't know why they wouldnt use their own radars.. As for WXIA, I didnt know they had their own radar. But I remember reading somewhere that WGCL did not have their own radar, so I guess they use the NWS'. Anymore info on all of this?
 
Everyone in town has the clockwise sweeps on there radars centered in Peachtree City, but the image actually refreshes itself like every 3 minutes. Now, CBS 46 has the best radar with the 3D Viper tool. Has anyone noticed how Channel 2 meteorologists like to zoom in on street level and have no knowledge of the area nor street they are mentioning.

You are right. WSB's is in Harrolson county, WAGA's is "out back" of the studio, and WXIA's is at the transmitter site on Arizona Ave. As for WGCL's "Viper" (Baron Services), I was hoping that the stations in Atlanta would not start trying to beat each other to death with "We have cooler graphics and better technology, ect....." slogans, like in Tampa. But, I'm afraid that's what's happening.

Shawty, I'm with you as well. The funny thing is that they have spent thousand's on this software, and don't even know how to use it. I have software that is very comparable, and only spent $150.00.

"Live Doppler" is not "Live" when they are using NWS radar information, and just by the way they operate, NEXRAD radars take 3-5 minutes per scan anyway. Hopefully, they'll mellow down some, and we'll have just 1 sweep by on the screen by fall.

Uh-Oh, I do suspect that WXIA might be getting ready to fire the next "shot" in terms of weather coverage/weather toys!.....
