I read somewhere that Country music is very popular in NYC on Sirius/XM. How do they know how many people listen to each station? Does your radio send a signal back to them? ???
It's been ages since I've gotten an XM/Sirius survey; I think XM actually cared what you wrote, as they kept old tyme radio etc as a result of their surveys, but I think Sirius does not give a sh** about any stinkin survey unless they said to cancel Howard Stern.
I thought if you listen online they can see how many people are listening to each station. like on any streaming internet station. RichBroRadio.com told me he can only see how many listeners there are but not the identity of the listeners.
A lot of (most?) Shoutcast-based streams work like that. For example, open up http://76.79.109.219:8000/ in a browser (not VLC) and note the status page that appears. I think there may be other streaming server programmes that do similar things.
[size=8pt]Hey, look, this is my 1900th post! 101 more and I'll actually be in this century...

I get their surveys frequently, but they almost always deal with the talk/sports channels and the questions focus on whether I remember the advertisers on those channels. Lately, they've been sending out surveys asking for feedback on their listeners-only concert events -- Did you get our email? Did you open it? Were you interested in the big-name acts we got to play for us? That's about as close as they've come to asking about music channels. It's as if the music channels are just filler, and what really matters are the channels they can sell advertising on and the musical celebrities they can brag about bringing to some rented venue in New York City to play for a roomful of fanboys.
