Questions about Nashville

Hello Nashvillians
I'm a lurker/poster from the Atlanta Board and looking for some info on Nashville. I figure you all would know the area well. My son is looking at college in Nashville and we were up for a visit last week and trying to figure the area out. Of course we saw alot of country bars on Broadway but it seems they're more for the 21 and up crowd.
Where do the 18-21 yr olds hang out to listen to music, shop etc? If your familiar with Atlanta we have Little Five Points which has shops, music venues etc that are open to all ages. Is there an area like that in Nashville? Where you can walk around safely and just hangout?
and of course recommend some radio stations, does anything besides country music exist/have listeners or should he just suck it up and become a country fan?
thanks!

"All the Rage" magazine caters to your age group. Check it out online. The hot spots these days are The Gulch (around 12th, 11th and Division Streets), Elliston Place, Hillsboro Village (for hanging out), a few downtown spots come to mind immediately.

thank you, this is perfect. There is more to Nashville than Country!

You are welcome. If your son seeks a good university I recommend Belmont (...hail to thee, alma mater...). Lightning 100.1 WRLT-FM is an independent, local station. 102.9 The Buzz (WBUZ) is in cahoots with "All the Rage" magazine. You may want to check out the stations' web sites. Good luck and welcome to Nashville.

That where he wants to go! We went for an open house last week and he was drooling. :)
The only thing that concerned him was the downtown area, he is used to going to small venues to see indie groups and as we walked along Broadway all we saw was country for 21 & up
He is working hard on his application to try and get any scholarship money from Belmont (he can go in GA for free on the HOPE), any tips?
Thanks
