Questions about State Employees

Does any Talk Host have the testicular fortitude (Gene Burns's line) to ask the Governor, why not lay off the Cabinet Post newly created for Dept. of Energy, six figures, when the person who retired last year , rose thru the ranks, not a cabinet position nor a six figure salary?? How many others?? What purpose does cranky, arrogant Steve Kass, play?? How about O'Neil, who else is six figures or what other cronies. The more I think about this, it is unfair to furlough state employees.

I at one time respected the Governor, but, he is a Trojan Horse.

I am not a State Employee, I live in southeastern Mass, but, most of family is in Rhode Island.

MMM also, the person who asked Jon DePetro about his sister who was appointed to the Carcieri administration as a payback for his support, well, how about her being furloughed? Talk Hosts are two faced.

tony...Dan did grill the Governor about this back about a year ago when the issue of the anticipated deficit (at that point projected to be 200 mill overall) was brought up. There was at the time 6-7 positions on the DLT website for state employees that totalled 600k in salary (not including benefits) that were posted...kind of got washed under the bridge at the time....there are currently 2 manager/supervisor jobs listed on the site (http://www.dlt.ri.gov/JobsRI/Vacancies_unlisted.htm) with over 50k salary-1 deputy director for the DLT & 1 Dept administrator for bridge/highway maintanence operations. Seeing as the stories over the last month & 1/2 have been bad bridges in the state and jobs exiting the state; both of those positions are needed; but at what cost...164k in starting step 1 salaries (not including benefits?) Dan being on vaca today, we might hear a little about this in the coming days as the "discussions" with the unions happened last week while Dan was away and written up in the past couple of days in the paper

From what I understand through a verrrrry reputable source (Holland, I'm sure you can confirm or deny this for us) Dave Barber is now in charge of Capital TV.

"Good evening from Block Island..."

I'm SHOCKED!
SHOCKED that rumor-mongers here took so long to sniff-out THIS story.

This reporter (http://members.aol.com/cookeh/RIstatehouse.jpg) CAN confirm that Dave Barber is working for Capitol TV.
He started January 1.
Where ya been?
The clues have been everywhere...

Dave is NOT in-charge-of Capitol TV.
As I understand their plans, he's been brought-in to be, in-effect, "the Tim Russert of" it.

APPLAUSE!
That channel can be SO-much-more than a PowerPoint between live floor coverage.
C-SPAN-of-RI, y'know?

Let's hear what Dan Yorke has to say about THAT!

Dan can't respond right now Holland since he, like me, is laughing hysterically. For those unfamiliar Capitol TV is the RI version of old Soviet television. Run by the General Assembly and featuring programming only they want broadcast, i.e. union rallies, pressers by Democrats only etc
Wow poor Dave Barber. Talk abut a career crash and burn. Yikes!!!
Dan Yorke may not say anything out of sheer pity. Jeez Holland this is the best you could do for your buddy?
Ouch!!!!!!!!! ;)

"Dan Yorke may not say anything out of sheer pity."

I doubt THAT'S the reason.

<< Jeez Holland this is the best you could do for your buddy? >>

Please don't infer that I vectored Dave into this position.
Not the case.

<< Run by the General Assembly and featuring programming only they want broadcast, i.e. union rallies, pressers by Democrats only etc. >>

So...what you're saying is...if-only-they-could-make-it-MORE?
You mean more original programming?
More interactivity?
But to do that, they'd probably want to bring someone in from...BROADCASTING?

<< Wow poor Dave Barber. >>

I'll leave it to you and Dave to compare W-2 forms. But your anonymous snipes seem to overlook the implications of the screaming headline about Clear Channel on the homepage @ radio-info.com...

<< Talk abut a career crash and burn. >>

Think RADIO will be a more-secure career platform in 2008?
'Been watching CDL share price?
