Questions For Mr. Michaels

The Buffalo Broadcasters Association tonight will induct and honor a number of deserving Western New York broadcasters into its Hall of Fame. Among the inductees, Randy Michaels, who made his mark locally with Taft Broadcasting and went on to greater accomplishment nationally with Clear Channel Communications.

It would be interesting and entertaining to wire him up with a microphone and ask his always candid opinions about the present state of the radio business.

AM Sports and News-Talk stations are migrating to FM where they're finding more security and building audiences. Does this trend signal the ultimate demise of AM? Aside from the big 50kW monsters, is AM radio on life support? What's the projected time line?

Do you think FM, with its inclusion on digital devices such as the iPhone and iPod, will rebound?

What do you make of the crushing debt that so many companies face? Is there any way out other than bankruptcy? As an example, given Citadel's dire circumstances, the company is in need of $150 by January 15, 2010, would Randy Michaels be interested in becoming an equity partner in Citadel?

On a smaller scale, would you be interested in some of Citadel's properties, particularly its Buffalo cluster?

What's Buffalo radio sound like to you these days?

Can Big Ed Schultz get the clearance he needs from strong-signal AMs or FMs to take on Rush Limbaugh?

Michaels is one of the most astute broadcasters in America and he's never been at a loss for an opinion. WNED-AM or WBFO could score some points by securing an interview.

So would he assume Entercom will move WBEN and WGR over to two of it's FM properties? If so, which Entercom FM's will drop music for sports and news/talk?

For that matter, could WHAM wind up on 100.5 in the near future? I mean, since we're speculatin' here - I'm just wonderin'.
