Quick Red Sox radio question

Coming out of Worcester this evening, I noticed that the Red Sox game was on both WVEI-AM 1440 and WCRN-AM 830. Aren't these two stations both in the Worcester market? If so, was something else being preempted or rescheuled on one station? I could be wrong, bot as I passed by on I-290 near the construction zone, the Worcester Tornadoes had a game in progress.

The Tornadoes used to be on 830 WCRN but that only lasted one season I think.

ANd 830 has a deal to carry the Sox to cover areas 850 can't reach in metro west.

I understand about WCRN-AM 830 and their signal. My question was why two stations in the same market were carrying the same game?

Im sure there are areas where WCRN's 50KW on a dial dial position reaches that 1440's mere 5KW high on the dial doesn't get.. 830 fills in the gap between Worcester and Boston where 1440/850 don't reach..

It happens, down in SE Mass, WBSM 1420 carries the games in New Bedford, which covers some of the same areas as 1480 WSAR in Fall river, and they both cover areas that are withing 103.7's range. Before 103.7, the games were carried on WPRO-AM

kML... your questions seems to have gone painfully unanswered in 6 posts... so here you go: When Entercom worked out the new 10 year deal with the Sox, part of the negotiation was that WVEI-AM would carry Sox games, so it would be "complete" with all 4 EEI stations carrying the games. Given that WVEI-AM is a terrible signal, CRN was also brought in to the deal to carry the games as well. CRN does not have the authority to sell any commercials for the broadcast... EEI & VEI actually sell the CRN inventory. CRN benefits from any uptick in ratings.

Meanwhile, WTIC-AM 1080 of Hartford dominates Connecticut so much with their coverage that their's almost no need for any other affiliate in this state.

And there aren't, except in areas where TIC's signal is weak. That's why there's WILI in Wilimantic, WINY in Putnam, WQUN in New Haven, and WGCH in Greenwich on the SOX Network, tho one would assume EEI-FM can be heard in Wilimantic and Putnam that's why News-Talk 102.3 in New London doesn't carry the games anymore. (All cities mentioned are market names not cols)
