Things are quiet because radio is in a deep hole...and 2009 may be even worse. A few Wallstreet and Broadcast analysts say that radio revenue nationwide will fall another 13%...and they say that number is very conservative. Some say revenue will be down over 20%.
Radio listening in smaller markets, including Bangor, Burlington, and Portland was down over 30% last year...and its not going to get any better. Advertisers are going elsewhere. Internet and cable TV is WAY up and continues to grow. Radio and local TV stations are suffering huge.
I hate to be negative...but that is the reality. It is because of this that many radio pros are looking at getting out for good. Burlington and Bangor markets will see a number of vets leave the biz. Just watch.
