Quiet On The Boards

Why So Quiet? This used to be the place to find out every bit of gossip on Syracuse Radio. Has Ed paid everyone off to shut-up? Anyhow, there was someone who asked about Syracuse a while back and everyone said avoid Ed...yeah we get it he's a jerk...I also wanted to point out someone else who's a jerk and will always be...Get Ready...
Peter Vogue Jr. (Owner Of Whirlin' Disc DJ's)...If you are ever booking an event...(Wedding, Holiday Party or such)...Don't book him or his company. If you are looking to work as a Disc Jockey either go with someone else or start your own venture and...If you work for him now...get out (don't worry about a "no-compete" clause)!
--He's already broken the contract if you work for him...here's how. If he books a show and sends you to Ithaca, Utica, or any place out of Syracuse...and only gives you $30 for mileage...he's depreciating your vehicle at your expense...Therefore breaking the contract he made with you.
--If he gives you equipment and it breaks down at a show it is not your fault...It's his. and it constitutes not giving you adequate materials to get the job done.
I've said my peace on this just want to let everyone know about how in my mind Peter Vogue Jr. is as much of a jerk if not more of a jerk than Ed so you don't make a big mistake in this competitive business

So, this is what the once esteemed Syracuse-Utica radio board has come to. Buffalo guys stopping by to drop off a loaf of bread. Mobile DJ's speaking their piece to set the record straight.

Who knew the days of Pettibone and Mrknowitall or whatever the hell that shill from CC Syracuse called himself, would be considered the golden era.

And Jay, you should know that given your experience, you're now well-equipped for a career in radio. Step right up to the microphone, you battle-hardened dude!

I'd settle for discussions about how K-Rock "rocks" more that 95X or vice-versa. Or an oldie-but-a-goodie: Hey, your chocolate is in my peanut butter!

I'd take anything at this point. Anyone out there????

The Sound of Falling Snow

Guys, who's got anything to crow about? The Clear Channel Boys From Syracuse are under their desks, trying to stay under the radar as they wait to see if CC Corporate will find a buyer for them, or the new money guys will cut them to the marrow.

Citadel Syracuse is an absolute mess. The only thing saving them from further embarrassment is that fact that there are no public ratings to discuss - thanks to Ed "Tightwad" Levine and his abandonment of Arbitron.

Biggus Dickus is flaccid. Petty Bone vanished. SU sports are in the toilet. And winter's on the way...

Just an FYI, Citadel is not run by Levine, you mean Galaxy. Please get your facts straight before you go around calling people out and their "embarrasing" ratings.
Citadel's are quite respectable.

Reading Comprehension Problem?

If you READ the post, you'll see that I never said that Citadel was run by Levine. I said that Levine's abandonment of Arbitron meant that Citadel's numbers don't get posted in public, which saves them from further embarassment.

Citadel's numbers are a fraction of what they were a few years ago. If you call that "respectable", you need to raise your standards. Every station in the cluster is down, so it's not just the "we lost Howard" whine from 95X that I'm talking about. 'NTQ is holding on, but the finger nails there must need a manicure by now.

Eastlan doesn't even offer 12+ numbers to the general public. You'd think that they'd WANT some publicity for their company, wouldn't you?

Sad. Very sad.

At first, I was going to say how it really sucks that there's no public information about the ratings. How do listeners know which station is #1, or how their favorite station stacks up against competitors?

But then I started to wonder if this information might affect people's listening habits. How many listeners of 93Q would switch to Hot, if they heard Hot was beating Q by several ratings points... or vice versa? I'm sure many people have their favorite, regardless of what the ratings say. But I also wonder if the absence of public ratings info has an impact on things... in terms of people listening to their "true" favorite station, without knowing how truly popular that station is (or isn't).

Unfortunately for you guys, I'm not going to spend my work day letting you antagonize the subject. All I am going to say is that I enjoy Citadel's stations, more so than others in the market and that's my opinion.
Just because Galaxy doesn't follow Arbitron doesn't mean that the rest of the market still doesn't use it.
Maybe the reason no one is posting mean comments about one another is beacuse the people who were doing it before grew up.
Try it.

For the record....

Mature Response

Thanks, Kev, for the link to year old data. Let me know when it gets updated, OK?

Bob Ross makes an interesting point. I've often speculated that people write down the stations that percieve as "hip", as opposed to the stations that they actually listen to. PPM is demonstrating some differences between diary notations and what people are actually hearing - whether they're listening or not. IMO, promotions may actually affect diary listings more than minor programming changes.
